PAY GRADE: 18B

PAY RANGE: Min: $125,200 – Mid: $166,900 – Max: 208,600

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with additional work hours as needed.

Summary of Primary Duties:

The Director of the Technology Project Management Office (PMO) will lead the transformation and enhancement of our technology PMO, establishing consistency via best practices, to drive enhanced delivery results. Foundationally, this will involve working across portfolio team owners and sponsors to define, implement, and sustain processes, deliverables, and metrics driving consistency in execution for strategic technology-related investments by portfolio for Evergy’s long-term strategy and business objectives. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Director will collaborate closely with the Evergy Technology Steering Committee, IT Planning & Operations, and all portfolio owners, fostering effective working relationships, communication, and oversight of the execution of large, strategic initiatives. The Director will work across portfolio owners to assist in the identification and evaluation of project risks, development of mitigation plans, and measures of success to drive successful project outcome, engaging to assist in initiatives that are not in a healthy status.

The Director will oversee the development and finalization of milestone and baseline project schedules, budgets, and gate reviews for early and late-stage projects. As an excellent coordinator and collaborator, the Director must provide strong leadership skills, be a strategic thinker, and be able to help portfolio teams deliver solutions that brings the most value to Evergy. This role is responsible for developing the relationship with stakeholders through management and technical leadership.

Summary of Primary Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and communicate a clear vision for the technology PMO, aligning it with Evergy’s strategic goals and objectives. Champion the adoption of best practices, ensuring consistent application of management methodologies and standards.

  • Governance and Processes: Work across portfolio teams to define, implement, and sustain foundational processes, deliverables, and metrics driving consistency in execution. Establish and maintain foundational governance structures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements. Provide regulatory testimony, data request responses, and support in regulatory proceedings. Define and enhance project management processes, frameworks, and methodologies. Continuously improve foundational processes within the technology PMO, streamlining workflows and enhancing efficiency. Oversee project reporting, metrics, and timely information for decision-making.

  • Risk Management: Proactively identify risks related to technology projects and propose effective mitigation strategies.

  • Staffing: Work across third parties to acquire/provide project management resources to utilize PMO processes, deliverables, and metrics to lead/execute portfolio initiatives.

  • Influence and Negotiation: Use effective communication skills to influence outcomes and negotiate priorities across diverse stakeholders, driving consensus and alignment.

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Cross-Functional Collaboration: Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, facilitating seamless execution of technology projects.

  • Portfolio Management: Collaborate with portfolio owners to prioritize and execute technology initiatives. Ensure consistent artifacts, documentation, and quality standards. Drive benefit identification and realization, aligning planning and data with regulatory and financial requirements.

  • Portfolio Roadmap: Partner with portfolio owners to maintain a comprehensive set of technology portfolio roadmaps

  • Performance Metrics: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for project success, monitoring project performance against established metrics.

  • Resource Allocation: Allocate resources effectively across projects to maximize efficiency and impact.

  • Change Management: Facilitate change management efforts related to technology initiatives.

  • Talent Development: Managed technology PMO roles, fostering growth and skill development.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in the following fields or equivalent experience is preferred: business administration, information technology, engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.

  • Proven track record of influencing successful outcomes across stakeholders.

  • Comfortable communicating with high-level business leaders.

  • At least 8 years proven leadership experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring teams through project deliverables, complex situations and demonstrating the ability to keep teams engaged while meeting performance expectations is critical.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Scrum Master preferred.

  • 10 years of large project management experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing projects and their associated controls from start to finish including leading projects through change in dynamic environments is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required: Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide direction for large, capital intensive, and highly regulated programs and projects. The candidate must have the ability to interact with all levels of the organization including support staff and third-party system integrators. Advanced knowledge and utilization of project tracking and controls concepts required.

Candidate must have demonstrated the following leadership skills:

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other personnel including subordinates, peers, managers, vendors, contractors, and other contacts.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work effectively in a highly demanding team atmosphere.

  • Excellent organizational and time/priority management skills.

  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and experience interfacing and presenting to executive management.

  • Must possess the initiative and innovation to effectively implement new programs.

  • Strong project management and strong project controls skillset including familiarity with setting up new programs and utilization of industry standard software for execution.

  • Knowledge of project management, project scheduling, and cost control principles and their implementation.

Working Conditions:

Position will require travel in the Evergy territory on a regular basis in the office and field environment. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance and safety record. Response to extended construction schedule is required outside of normal hours.
