The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity for aMaintenanceTechnicianinKankakee, IL.

About you and this role- What you will do in this role

Maintenance technician will work as part of the site maintenance team to maintain and repair chemical process equipment and complete general facility maintenance for the Dow Chemical plant in Kankakee IL. This work will include general mechanical skills as well as specialized rotating equipment, electrical and instrument expertise.

Responsibilities- Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

  • Knowledgeable and able to perform skills required but not limited to pipefitting, welding, electrician, instrumentation, carpentry, masonry, machinist.

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and provide effective repairs to all the components of instrumented systems including temperature/pressure transmitters, flow meters, limit switches, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), etc.

  • Complete preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment such as pumps (centrifugal, positive displacement and diaphragm), gear boxes, agitators, piping systems, remote actuated valves, etc.

  • Utilize and update procedures that efficiently, effectively and safely diagnose and repair Mechanical, Instrument and Electrical equipment / systems.

  • Document repair history, initiate Reliability improvements and resolve adverse equipment conditions.

  • Aggressively learn and acquire new skills within the broad spectrum of mechanical and I&E activities.

  • Basic shop skills such as shop housekeeping, tool maintenance and repair.

Qualifications- Required education, experience and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves)

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • 1 or more years of Industrial maintenance experience.

  • Experience working with hand tools.

  • Able to work the on-call schedule, overtime, nights, and weekends as needed.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills -An expanded list of qualifications that are "nice to have", but not essential

  • Technical Degree or Millwright or Pipefitter journeyman license.

  • Electronic Instrumentation skills (digital and analog).

  • Qualified Instrument Technician that can perform Instrument Checks and Calibrations.

  • Electrical maintenance skills.

  • Millwright skills including machine and rotating equipment repair.

  • Welding skills.

  • Pipefitting skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel.

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

  • Stand 50% of the time.

  • Walk for extended periods of time.

  • Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders.

  • Work in tight and closed in spaces.

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator.

  • May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, performs sustained manual activities at low to moderate levels of exertion.

  • Works and travels throughout the plant environments of varied temperatures and humidity.

  • May use hand tools and operate fixed and mobile plant equipment.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

  • Essential functions of this position may require, among other things, that the employee use particular types of equipment -- such as on-site safety equipment that has specific weight limitations whereby the individual’s own weight, plus the weight of tools and other items and materials, must not exceed a certain threshold. (For example, some types of safety equipment may be rated for a maximum weight limit of 300 pounds total.)
