State of Montana Hunting Access Technician in Kalispell, Montana

This position assists the Regional Access Manager, AdministrativeAssistant, Access Resource Specialist andAccessTechnicians inmanagementandimplementationoflandsenrolledinFWP huntingaccessprograms,includingcoordinating hunteruseofFWPmanagedprivatelands.This positionalsoassistsprivate landownersanddepartment enforcement andwildlifepersonnelwith recreational use compliance issues.This position functions as a member ofthe regional access team, which includes the Regional Access Manager,Access AdministrativeAssistant, Access Resource Specialist, and other Access Technicians. Employee housing isavailable attheFoysBendFCA bunkhouse inKalispell.Thisisashared space and available only for the individual employee. JobDuties: Assist with theimplementationof regional access programs. This includes assisting the AdministrativeAssistant with getting landowner supply packets ready, taking reservations for Block Management Areas,issuingpermission slips,providinginformation tothepubliconthephone andin person, mailing information to landowners and the public, etc. Collectandmaintain access usedataandinformation. Document dailyandseasonaluseofhunting areas. Act asa resource forlandowners andthepublic by responding to inquiries, providing information anddirection. Assistintheresolution ofconflictswhichinvolvehuntersandlandowners. Assistwith thedevelopment and dissemination ofprogrammatic materials. Communicate program information tohunters, landowners, anddepartment personnel. Provide generalinformation to hunters regarding department rulesandregulations, access opportunities,andstate andlocalland management agency rules. Applicantsshouldhavebasicknowledgeandunderstanding ofMontana'shuntingheritage,hunting principles, rules,andregulations. Abasic understandingofranching practices andagricultural communities ispreferred. Must becapable ofbuilding necessary skills tomaintain partnerships between hunting access, wildlife habitat conservation and agricultural values. Applicants should have the ability toeffectively communicateverbally and inwriting with diverse groups ofpeople and personalities.Applicants must demonstrate the ability towork inateam atmosphere,withregionalhuntingaccesspersonnel, biologists,andgamewardens.Applicants must alsodemonstrate aptitude for building andmaintaining interpersonal relationships withFWP staff, private landowners, the public andpartner agencies. Applicants must becapable explaining basic department principles and concepts ina simple, clear, and effective way tomembers ofthepublic. Mustbeabletoeffectively communicateverbally andinwriting withdiverse groups ofpeople and personalities.Must have good computer skills, working knowledge ofMicrosoft Office products, knowledge of clerical and office procedures.Must be able to interpret maps and impart ·that interpretationtoothers tohelpthemdecipherprivateandpubliclandownership boundaries, travel routes,anduserules.Basicknowledge andunderstanding ofMontana's huntingheritage,hunting principles, rulesand regulations isadvantageous.Musthaveaptitude for building andmaintaininginterpersonalrelationships,preferably with private landowners, thepublic andpartner agencies. Applicantmustbecapableoflearningandexplaining basicdepartment principles andconcepts ina simple, clear, andeffective way tomembers ofthe public. Musthave ability to workindependently with minimum supervision and/or instruction. Must have abasic understanding ofFWP Access Programs and their functions. Ability tolearn, interpret, understand, remain up-to-date andeffectively explain aspects ofthe Access Programs, departmentpolicies, regulations andprocedures tothegeneralpublic,landowners, anddepartment personnel. A working knowledge of the department's organizationalstructure, functions and operations is beneficial. Strong interpersonal and organizationalskills are necessary todevelop and maintain anongoing teamapproach thatmeets theneeds oftheregionalpersonnelanddepartment's constituency.Must have theability tosetpriorities andmake independent decisions inallareas ofdirect responsibility. Ability tointerpret maps toeffectively assist indirection thepublic to Access Areas. Mustbe ableto dealindependently with problems and confrontationalinteraction eliciting cooperation insuch instances tomaintain goodpublic relations. Musthavetheability toestablish andmaintain effective working relationships with fellow employees. Thisisaseasonalofficeposition.Approximate employment datesforthisAccessTechnician position are approximately October through the beginning of January. PhysicalandEnvironmentalDemands: This position requires sufficient outdoor skills to withstand the rigors and demands of working independently and remotely without cell phone service. Employee must have the ability to independently carryout jobdutiessafelyand effectively. Requires frequenttravel inafieldsetting, typically in remote and rugged terrain.Working conditions occur duringthe latesummer, fall,and winter sesaons.This position requires prolonged periods of driving in a 4-wheel drive vehicle in inclement weather on minimaly-maintained farm and ranch access routes and dirt roads. This position requires the employee tospend the majority of their time working outdoors. The position may be required to work odd hours, weekends, and holidays. MinimumQualifications(EducationandExperience): The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education andexperienceequivalent toaHighSchool Diploma orequivalency.
