We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented accountant to join our team. The role is open for multiple levels of experience, from entry-level staff accountants to experienced cost accountants. The accountant will be responsible for a variety of financial tasks, including preparing financial reports, assisting with internal controls, and performing cost accounting activities.
Responsibilities
Prepare closing documentation for sales, expenses, and inventories.
Assist in gathering data and preparing analytical reports.
Assist in the testing of internal controls and MS Excel spreadsheets.
Backup for capital expenditures and fixed assets.
Provide internal and external support as needed and directed.
Perform all cost accounting activities for the departments.
Prepare monthly financial reports and other required reports.
Prepare analyses and variance reports to improve profitability.
Maintain and control all perpetual inventories and assist with organizing and directing periodical physical inventory counts.
Assist in establishing estimated costs and reviewing project bid costs.
Participate in the preparation of forecasts and long-range plans.
Perform all accounting functions for fixed assets.
Assist operation managers in the preparation of AFE justifications.
Participate in internal control testing to ensure compliance.
Participate in problem-solving with department-coordinated teams.
Monitor performance of junior accountants during closing periods and special assignments.
Prepare and verify a variety of complex accounting, statistical, and narrative statements or reports requiring extensive analysis and interpretation of data.
Monitor operations and report problems and opportunities.
Analyze recommended rates and fees based on cost analysis.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
At least 2 years of experience for entry-level, 4 years for intermediate-level, and 8+ years for senior -level roles in accounting or cost accounting.
Experience within lease accounting (fixed assets) is necessary for intermediate and senior levels.
Must possess an active driver's license and have a personal vehicle.
Experience working as a staff accountant or cost accountant within a construction or similar environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Possession of an advanced degree (a plus for intermediate-level roles).
Preferred to have a CPA, CMA, or MBA in accounting for senior -level roles.
Work Environment
There are two locations for this role: one at the Sand Island office and the other at the mining operation in Kaneohe. Candidates will be positioned at one location based on their preference and proximity. This is an in-office role for either location.
