Summary About the Position: This position serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager with responsibility for planning, managing and administering a Brigade Safety and Occupational Health Program. Develops area of operation (AOR) safety policies, procedures, plans and regulations to ensure compliance with applicable Coalition NATO and other such standards, and to accommodate situations unique to this location and environment. Provides technical advice to the Brigade Commander in the development of guidelines, policies procedures, and courses of action for safety. Provides technical guidance and assistance to deployed commanders and staff officers to ensure compliance with established criteria, mission goals, and risk management. Provides interpretation of technical and general/vague criteria to assist in the formulation of appropriate control measures. Participates in the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) during operations planning group meetings and other course of action sessions to provide technical guidance and assistance to members of the command group and subordinate commanders. Develops on-the-spot methods and techniques to control or eliminate associated high-risk hazards. Prepares and briefs after-action reviews, and prepares lessons learned, recommendations, changes, and procedures to assist follow-on forces and operations. Deploys with their assigned unit and other operations as tasked by higher headquarters. Serves as the Commander's technical expert to identify, anal, and provide risk management control measures for life-threatening hazards. Provides technical guidance during the operations planning process to ensure the integration of composite risk management. Assesses the effectiveness of the Brigade Safety Program to identify strengths and weaknesses and develops methods and techniques to improve operational and systemic deficiencies. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level performing duties such as providing safety advice and guidance pertaining to military operations to determine and minimize associated risks; conducting accident investigations to determine and analyze contributing factors; performing inspections of facilities, equipment; and implementing safe practices, procedures, and/or principles for military training, exercises, and maneuvers ensuring compliance. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accident Investigation Program Management Public Safety and Security Risk Management Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
