The primary purpose of this position is to perform inspections of completed repair work accomplished on vehicles by mechanics to determine that the physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards, specifications, or other requirements; certifies that vehicles are ready to be returned to use. Responsibilities -Accomplishes quality assurance inspections. -Debriefs customers/vehicle operators and performs incoming inspections on special purpose, heavy, general purpose type vehicles and vehicular equipment. -Performs heavy mobile equipment and automotive mechanic work. -Utilizes established practices, procedures, and regulations regarding safety, security, and environmental issues; maintains safe and clean work environment; participates in assigned shop upkeep efforts; completes all required reports, forms, work orders, inspection and certification forms, and time sheets; and participates in productivity measurement studies, evaluations, and assessments. -Establishes and maintains good working relationships. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5800- Transportation/Mobile Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to perform the duties of an HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIR INSPECTOR without more than normal supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of technical practices, procedures, repairs, maintenance, and services performed on a variety of heavymobile equipment/special purpose and automotive vehicles including major systems and subsystems such as diesel,multi-fue1 and gasoline engines; automatic and manual transmissions; multi-gear assemblies; electronic fuelinjection; emission control; air conditioning systems and cooling systems; related electronic, hydraulic, fuel, air andother component assemblies; and a variety of positioning systems. 2. Knowledge of a variety of test equipment such as engine analyzers, dynamometers, diagnostic tachometers,diagnostic test equipment, and other equipment required for performing work, troubleshooting and diagnosingmechanical problems, analyzing malfunctions, and determining the extent of necessary repairs. 3. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures; the use of personal protection equipment; safe use andmaintenance of hand and power tools and other common-to-the-trade equipment and machinery; proper handlingand disposal of hazardous material and waste products such as petroleum, oil and lubricant products; standardhousekeeping practices for maintaining a clean and safe working environment; and in security for facilities, tools and equipment. 4. Skill in selecting the proper service manuals, technical orders, diagrams, and schematics; reading, interpreting,and applying instructions, specifications, and similar guides to properly service, repair and modify equipment. 5. Ability to complete work with little or no supervision including performing quality assurance inspections todetermine if the physical and operating characteristics of repaired equipment are within acceptable standards,specifications, or other requirements that the vehicles can be released for use. 6. Ability to communicate orally and legibly in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
