Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES Special Education Teacher in Johnstown, New York

Job Description HFM BOCES PTECH is accepting applications for a full-time, 10-month, tenure track Special Education Teacher. This position is located on the Fulton-Montgomery Community College (FMCC) campus in Johnstown, NY, and supports high school students in grades 11-14. An immediate start date is preferred.

  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP.

  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.

  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.

  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: Present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services to meet those goals.

  • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with members of the teaching team and others in developing instructional goals and strategies to meet individual student needs.

  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.

  • Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including technology.

  • Serves as primary contact for the parent.

  • Embedded services in the form of co-teaching and consultant teaching, both direct and indirect, based on student needs as defined by IEP and 504 accommodation plans.

  • Works with the college to ensure that students receive appropriate accommodations and transition services.

    About PTECH PTECH, or Pathways in Technology Early College High School, is a 6-year program that incorporates project-based learning and professional skills training as students work toward their 2-year degree from FMCC or SUNY Cobleskill (depending on the degree pathway) at no cost to their families. PTECH aims to look and function more like a hybrid between college and the workplace. It emphasizes individualized pathways to completion, workplace experiences, mentorship, in-depth project-based learning and real-world experiences. *Salary starts at $45,574 and will be commensurate with experience, consistent with the BOCES Teachers’ Association Agreement for Schedule D Certified with Masters.

Job Qualifications

Certification

  • Valid NYS Certification in Special Education Teacher Secondary 7-12, Content Specialty 7-12.

  • Dual Certification and Statements of Continued Eligibility (SOCE) in core subject areas is highly desired.

TEACH Clearance

Per Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required. Formal job offer/selection is contingent on the ability to obtain a fingerprint security clearance through the TEACH system prior to working.
