Overview

The ED Scribe is an essential member of the Emergency Room Team. This position is responsible for the generating and maintaining the Physician's documentation of the Emergency Department Encounter. The Scribe accompanies the Physician to each patient's evaluation and documents the History and Physical in the Epic Electronic Medical Record. Under immediate direction of the Physician, the Scribe keeps the note updated in real time with consults, actionable laboratory results, treatments, and the final disposition of the patient. This is repeated for each patient over a ten-hour shift, with a goal of seeing about two patients per hour. The ideal applicant will have familiarity with medical terminology, HIPPA and the overall flow of an Emergency Department. That said we are willing to train the right person for this role. Shifts mirror those of the Physicians, and as the Emergency Department isa 24-hour operation, the successful applicant will have a combination of daytime, afternoon, and evening/night availability.

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; knowledge of general office procedures and strong computer skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience as a medical receptionist; knowledge of insurance applicable to outpatient medical care.

  • Basic knowledge of principles and procedures for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and cardiac rehabilitation.
