The Opportunity

The position of MARKET ACCESS MANAGER works out of our Roodepoort Offices, Abbott Place in the Abbott Diabetes Care ( ADC) Division where we are committed to providing people with diabetes the freedom to continuously monitor and track their glucose levels with unsurpassed 14-day accuracy and no painful fingerstick. This role is responsible for securing market access, coverage and reimbursement for all Abbott Diabetes Care South Africa products and services with payors across South Africa – public and private

What You’ll Do:

  • Implements agreed programs to expand business in existing markets and/or identify business opportunities in new markets.

  • Responsible for all aspects of tender management both Government, at Provincial and National level, and all Private tenders including private hospitals in South Africa for all Abbott Diabetes.

  • To strategize, develop and be responsible for execution of key market access approved activities in South Africa for both key current product as well as all future products.

  • Continually assess healthcare policy dynamics across South Africa and develop reimbursement strategies .

  • Participate in cross functional activities to ensure commercial success for the division.

  • Collaboration with pharma, diagnostics, and other healthcare entities for business expansion

  • Meets with key customers (medical aid companies, distributors, top KOLs and government stakeholders) in order to build relationships and ensure awareness of Abbott Diabetes Care products and the understanding of the value proposition of new standard of care technologies for the management and control of glucose levels for people living with diabetes.

  • Anticipates market trends and implements innovative market access programs to gain market share. Assesses, determines, and prioritizes potential market growth opportunities in private and public funders and implement action plans to grow and expand access to new glucose monitoring technology in South Africa.

  • Together with internal customers analyses strategies, specific tactics and resources to drive growth opportunities for assigned products and address key risks.

  • Plays a major role in the introduction of new products to the country to ensure successful launch and continuity of product.

  • Negotiates and reviews pricing for all private funders, retailers, wholesalers and tenders and recommends updates to senior management, as needed based on changing landscape {customer, cost, competition, new products).

  • Maintain accurate Abbott Diabetes Care price lists and ensure pricing updates are implemented at DSV.

  • Builds and maintains relationships with key decision-makers in the health care system, Medical Aids, government agencies, regulatory bodies, key opinion leaders, public sector, state sector and community.

  • Arrange quarterly funder meetings, HCP Advisory board meetings and KOL engagement forums.

  • Ensure product listing and adoption on formularies of medical schemes and private and public hospital groups in South Africa and keep abreast of changes in the managed healthcare sector. Build relationships by attending regular meetings with these KOLs.

  • Applies and communicates Abbott values in all decisions internally and externally.

  • Role is office-based , however required to be in field atleast 5 days in a month

Required Qualifications

• Relevant Medical OR Healthcare qualification is essential.

Preferred Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years in a Market Access Manager role

  • Must have extensive relationships and experience with key stakeholders and knowledge of the of the South Africa Health Care environment – both private and public sectors

  • Must have strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

  • Strong ability to teamwork and reaches out to other divisions in Abbott Laboratories.

  • Successful experience in the Market Access space.

  • Must be willing to travel both nationally and internationally.

  • Must have a valid Licence and reliable vehicle
