Qualifications:

Required:

  • MSN or MSN-ED required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in specialty required.

  • Experience in education or staff development required.

  • Must have Med Surg, Telemetry, and Surgical experience

  • Clinical specialty PCCN, CMSRN, or Certification in Orthopedic Nursing required

  • BLS and ACLS Required

Preferred:

  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development preferred

  • Completion of Clinical experience in NLN accredited school preferred

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Clinical specialty PCCN, CMSRN, or Certification in Orthopedic Nursing

  • BLS and ACLS Required

  • Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsement

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift

  • Monday Friday, day shift with flexibility to meet the unit(s) needs, occasional weekend coverage

Essential Functions:

The Nurse Educator is a registered professional nurse who has the expertise in nursing professional development, education, and/or a specific area of nursing practice. Experience for this role includes an in-depth understanding and management of a wide scope of patients including adult Telemetry, Medical -Surgical, and Surgical patients. The Nurse Educator must have an in-depth understanding of the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Practice. She/he is a member of the Nursing Leadership team and supports the Organization s Mission, Vision, and Values, and actively participates in the shared governance process. She/he is responsible and accountable for the development and application of the Standards of Care and policies and procedures of Jersey City Medical Center-RWJBH, in an effort to enhance the quality of care provided to patients and families. The primary function is that of an educator, practitioner, consultant and change agent. Assesses data relevant to the learner s progress, and interprets the appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans. The Nurse Educator is a clinical expert with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides. This individual will be responsible to assess the educational needs of the staff on an on-going basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, fellow educators, Management, allied professional staff and other healthcare providers. In addition to the aforementioned skills, the nurse educator must possess clinical experience, training, and education aligned with their specialty practice area of focus. The Nurse Educator will assist in the orientation and clinical practice on the Medical- Surgical, Telemetry Unit, Surgical and Float Pool Nurses. The Nurse Educator will participate in the Nurse Residency Program. Qualified applicants for this role need demonstrated clinical experience in pre/post cardiac catherization care, ventilator dependent patients, post intensive care unit level transfers, mastery level of cardiac rhythm interpretation/treatments, demonstrated competence in medical surgical skills. The Nurse Educator may assist in other departments as clinically requested by nursing leadership. Demonstrated teaching ability required for the position.

  • Acts as a role model and promotes professional practice and development

  • Serves as a resource to shared governance councils, committees and workgroups as requested.

  • Assists staff to obtain or refine skills and knowledge related to specific

  • Assists staff to obtain or refine skills and knowledge related to specific populations and their respective specialty scope of practice and standards.Collaborates with nurse educator team to meet Nursing Education departmental goals, as well as local and system initiatives.Communicate frequently with practice leaders and staff within assigned specialty practice area of focus.

  • Collaborates with representatives of other professions to create, manage, implement, coordinate and evaluates inter-professional education

  • Collaborates with Nursing Director / Preceptor / Orientee to facilitate the completion of the orientation process for all unit employees. Reviews progression of the orientee s individual practice, assists with goal setting, evaluates

  • Communicates and collaborates with colleagues and the healthcare team

  • Conducts classes to promote the effectiveness of unit orientation and updates education as required to reflect current policies and procedures, evidenced based practices and standards of care

  • Develops, coordinates, manages, facilitates, conducts, and evaluates competency assessments and competency programs for all staff within the department of nursing

$106,000 Minimum to $116,000 Maximum Annual Salary
