Job Summary

Paid Internships start May 2025 - September 2025

The Field Technician Intern position is a seasonal hire who collects field data used in assisting utility clients in complying with federal regulatory requirements in the gas distribution industry. These summer positions will run for approximately twelve to fourteen weeks with extensive field work throughout the state of New Jersey.

Seasonal field technicians will use a company-provided vehicle and equipment to safely take test station reads at the designated locations as directed by utility personnel.

Responsibilities

Applicants will be expected to perform the following tasks as part of their normal work:

  • Work independently under minimal supervision

  • Report to client’s local gas distribution office to obtain maps and test station data books

  • Drive safely to test station locations to perform basic field testing of corrosion control systems on underground and submerged metallic structures

  • Plan workday to efficiently and safely collect the daily quota of data

  • Accurately record data in GIS app and by following client’s procedures

  • Make field decisions and be responsible for obtaining field data that determines conditions of structures under evaluation

  • Review field results/data with field office corrosion technicians and with management in engineering office

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Must have a safe driving record and grant permission to MPS to access their MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)

  • Must have a personal cell phone they can use throughout the job

  • Live in the NJ area and be able to commute to the assigned work locations

  • Knowledge of MS Office applications, including Outlook

  • Must have good written and oral communication skills

  • Working toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field

  • Candidates with satisfactory performance on this job may be considered for continued employment

  • NACE certification is a plus
