The Dispatcher is an integral part of the team, and the key point of contact for both Drivers and customers throughout the day.

The Dispatcher is responsible for setting up crew sheets for commercial routes and notify employees of their schedule each day. In addition, the Dispatcher fields phone calls from Customer Service and directly from customers, and dispatch Drivers to additional service calls throughout the day as needed. Interstate Waste Services utilizes a state-of-the-art onboard fleet management software – Routeware – and the Dispatcher is responsible for reviewing information submitted from the Driver through this system.

  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and protocols as well as federal, state, and local regulations. 

  • Scheduling and dispatching drivers, work crews, vehicles, or equipment to appropriate locations according to predetermined schedules, customer requests or immediate needs.

  • Manage daily truck activity to ensure driver productivity is commensurate with hours worked. 

  • Set up crew sheets and notify all employees of their schedules. 

  • Review Driver requests for container switches or repairs and enter service tickets into the company database.  

  • Initiate outbound calls to customers while Drivers are onsite to resolve pick-up and other service issues.  

  • Using RouteWare tablets to communicate with on the field team members.

  • Coordinating with route supervisors, customer service, maintenance, or sales to resolve problems, requests for services or equipment.

  • Keeping and organizing work requests, customer requests, completed work requests, charges for work performed, inventory records and other information.

  • Assuring that all customer locations are geo coded accurately in Tower/RouteWare.

  • Entering daily productivity into Tower (i.e., tons, miles, hours of service, etc.)

  • will manage and analyze data, build and publish reports. Independently conduct research, make suggestions on how to be more efficient and accurate in developing reports capturing productivity and efficiencies.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • mid-level experience dispatcher

  • truck load or drayage dispatching experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety.

  • Knowledge of applicable traffic, transportation, and other laws and regulations.

  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft suite of applications a must (excel, word, power point, outlook power BI)

  • Bi-Lingual (Spanish English) a plus but not a must

  • 1+ years of live dispatching experience.

  • Completion of relevant undergraduate degree or certificate program

  • Experience from the sanitation industry

  • Strong knowledge of truck telematic, e-logs software like Samsara and or similar is strongly preferred

  • 25% travel to visit sites to observe and report on drivers’ performance and accidents, behavior
