CONTROLLERS

Controllers ensure that the firm meets all the financial control and reporting obligations of a global, regulated, and public financial institution. Our professionals measure the profitability of, and risks associated with, every aspect of the firm's business. Controllers also ensure that the firm's activities are conducted in compliance with the regulations governing transactions in the financial markets.

BUSINESS UNIT

Controllers Risk Governance Office (CRGO) is responsible for the overall risk management of the Controllers division, including all aspects of operational and financial reporting risk.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Contribute to the identification, qualitative review and analysis of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control issues (including financial reporting errors, technology or third-party considerations), and production of related presentations for senior leadership
  • Engage with risk partners and risk and control owners firmwide to drive resolution of identified SOX control issues
  • Communicate the impact of SOX risks and issues including potential impact on financial statements, and provide risk assessment and SOX advisory services to relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with various Controller teams and other impacted stakeholders to perform risk assessments of new GAAP requirements, and identify and implement necessary control improvements
  • Assist with the administering and execution of the SOX 404 and operational risk and control self-assessments by partnering with divisional risk governance representatives to ensure the timely and appropriate completion of the self-assessment
  • Engage with risk partners across the organization to review changes to existing or new control requirements and ensure SOX risks and considerations are contemplated
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors and facilitate financial statement or integrated audit processes
  • Partner with other firm risk and control disciplines (e.g., Internal Audit, Operational Risk) to support the firm's overall control objectives

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must be multi-disciplined, with experience/knowledge of key aspects of finance and accounting commensurate with a global banking institution
  • Experience with internal/external audit and/or SOX compliance is required
  • Prior experience with market, credit and operational risk, across products, is a highly preferred
  • Ability to identify and assess complex SOX risks and controls to relate them to the wider business environment and to express opinions clearly to all levels
  • Good knowledge of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO Framework), different types of controls through transaction lifecycle and control deficiency evaluation criteria from a SOX financial reporting risk and controls perspective
  • Experience in managing diverse business and IT stakeholders at various levels of seniority
  • Individual must be comfortable navigating large data sets and distilling information into an executive level presentation
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting concepts
  • Certification in CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and possess strong analytical and intellectual abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in delivering high quality work products, reflecting attention to detail and analytical and problem-solving prowess
  • 3+ years experience performing SOX risk or control assessments aimed at independently assessing weaknesses and gaps
  • Demonstrates ability to establish strong working relationships with cross functional stakeholders

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this Jersey City, New Jersey, United States-based position is $85000-$140000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
