Building Department

*Multi-Certified Inspector II * Ashtabula County Building Department  Pay grade/Rate of Pay:         Pay Grade 12: $27.07 - $27.88 plus benefits and annual step increases.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision of the Chief Building Official, the Multi-Certified Inspector II will:

• Conducts inspections of all types of buildings (residential, industrial, commercial) and construction or upgrading projects in order to ensure compliance with applicable building and electrical codes and regulations (inspects electrical and heating work; footings; foundations; frames; drain tiles; equipment; materials; methods; enforces standards of workmanship; etc.).
• Identifies code violations and recommends corrective measures for compliance with code; communicates with contractors or homeowners regarding the requirements of National Electric Code, building code, and other applicable laws and regulations; issues stop work orders; authorizes the issuance of permits for electrical installations; makes final inspections of completed buildings; prepares final certificate of occupancy for review and approval of the Chief Building Official.  
• Reviews plans, blueprints, specifications, and other project documentation in order to ensure compliance with state and local building codes, National Electric Code and other applicable requirements; consults with planners, architects, engineers, and others regarding project compliance; issues construction permits for approved plans; prepares and maintains records, reports, and other documentation related to the operations of the department. 
• Provides information to the general public and contractors on building and electrical codes and interpretations of such codes, general construction problems and other electrical code related issues; receives and responds to complaints or inquiries from citizens, attorneys, government officials, and others.
• Maintains required licensures and certifications.
• Performs other duties as required/assigned. 

*QUALIFICATIONS: *Completion of secondary education or equivalent (high school diploma or GED), minimum of two (2) Ohio Board of Building Standards certifications as a Commercial Building Inspector (BI) (Full or Interim Certificate) and an Electrical Safety Inspector (ESI) required. 

*LICENSURE or CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: *Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the County's vehicle insurance policy. May be required to obtain other certifications issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards.
