Description

Purpose: The Systems Engineer II provides expertise in the strategy, design, development, and support of large-scale projects in both cloud and on-premise environments. Architects, designs, builds, and maintains Microsoft server products, Citrix solutions, VMWare and/or network infrastructure. Supports System Engineers and System Administrators with guidance and direction for projects and escalated tickets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work in tandem with our engineering team to direct the design, implementation, testing, debugging, and drive innovative solutions to solve complex technical or business problems leveraging our combined on-premises and cloud-based environments.

  • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding infrastructure maintenance in AWS environments.

  • Lead in the administration and support of open source infrastructure technologies.

  • Serve as escalation point for AWS and on premise Linux technological stack.

  • Provide guidance, thought leadership, and mentorship to Data Dimensions teams to build cloud and open source toolset competencies.

  • Create, tune, and optimize automation across AWS and on-premise infrastructure technologies.

  • Ensure the deployed environments performance, uptime, and scale while maintaining high standards for quality and thoughtful design.

  • Manage cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines.

  • Collaborate with interdepartmental project team members on all aspects of development, particularly as it concerns documentation, customer satisfaction, performance, and security requirements.

  • Utilize outstanding problem-solving skills and attention-to-detail to participate in the analysis and design of integrated solutions and problem management.

  • Support changes and enhancements from development through product deployment.

  • Track and support multiple simultaneous activities.

  • Provide effective communication regarding issues, objectives, initiatives, and status of assigned activities.

  • Implements best practice procedures for Microsoft, Citrix, VMWare and Network architecture design, development, implementation, maintenance, support, and documentation.

  • Architects, designs, and builds systems infrastructure to support business needs.

  • Develops project plans for the implementation of systems infrastructure and executes the project.

  • Provides consulting services both internal and external to the organization.

  • Provides customer service to the business and production teams.

  • Collaborates with IT and business groups as needed.

  • Works with Infrastructure team to maintain data center operations.

  • Windows server administration, design, and architecture of; Windows Servers, Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix NetScaler, Active Directory, VMWare, Network Firewalls, SAN, Network Switches and Windows Server Administration for DFS/IIS/FTP/Clusters.

  • Provides on-call escalated support on a scheduled basis and fills gaps in coverage.

  • Create and Manage systems reports & monitoring agents; perform data collection of performance metrics, analyze system health and status, set monitoring thresholds and automated alerts.

  • Creates and maintains server infrastructure documentation and diagrams.

  • Supports the Director of NIT and department with team building efforts, skill set improvement and strategic planning.

  • Required to attend mandatory meetings and trainings, work scheduled overtime with minimal notice, and perform other duties as assigned per business needs.

Qualification Requirements –

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Able to read, write and speak English.

  • Successfully pass and maintain acceptable background checks and security clearances.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university plus 8 years of related experience and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong skills in leading and motivating technology teams to meet and exceed project goals.

  • Five or more years of direct experience in architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions on AWS platforms.

  • Knowledge of architecting AWS environments for dynamic scalability and high availability.

  • Five or more years of experience administrating enterprise Linux distributions such as RHEL or Ubuntu.

  • Experience with open source storage technologies such as gluster or ceph is highly desirable.

  • 3 years of experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Juju, AWS OpsWorks, or Puppet preferred.

  • Service-oriented mentality.

  • Self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to function independently and part of a team.

  • Attentiveness to deadlines, priorities, and timely completion of daily work.

  • Above-average organizational skills and attention to details.

  • Conscientiousness and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation.

  • Superior project management – Must effectively develop and manage project plans identifying all tasks, timelines, and resource staffing needed to meet project deadlines. Ensure project remains on timeline track and within budget managing delays and resolving problems.

  • Ability to proactively and successfully track/support multiple simultaneous activities.

  • Excellent research and technical writing skills.

  • Ability to construct project plans and implement work breakdown structures.

  • Ability to document processes and build procedural documentation.

  • Travel as required.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • AWS Cloud Practitioner minimum, AWS Associate or higher preferred

  • Citrix Certified.

  • VMWare Certified.

  • MCSE, CCEA, CCA, MCSA, preferred but not required.

Computer Skills:

  • Linux Administration

  • AWS Services Implementation

  • Open Source Enterprise Storage

  • Cloud and On Premise Networking

  • Bash

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Architecture and Design.

  • Microsoft Active Directory design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

  • VMWare ESX Server design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong knowledge of SAN and NAS technology.

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise backup solutions.

  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise Monitoring platforms. SolarWinds preferred.

  • Knowledge of network communications technologies and troubleshooting communications with Microsoft Systems.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional Suite, Microsoft Project software, Microsoft Visio Software.

Experience

Required

  • Intermediate knowledge Linux, preferably Ubuntu

  • Intermediate knowledge in Citrix

  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Windows Operating Systems

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university plus 8 years of related experience and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
