University of North Florida Sr Library Services Associate in Jacksonville, Florida

Typical Responsibilities: Maintains fiscal and statistical records for acquisitions programs. Conducts research for library acquisitions regarding the availability of particular items and the prices to purchase and/or replace the materials. Conducts all bibliographic searches including specialized searches i.e. foreign language sources, governmental documents, and medical or legal references. Catalogs and maintains audio-visual materials. Instructs patrons in the use of a variety of library and reference resources. Corresponds with vendors to ascertain the availability of materials for purchase or to enter claims for damaged or missing items shipped. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Required Qualifications: A high school diploma and four years of experience directly related to the job functions. Directly related college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Head of Access Services, this position supports the Course Reserves operation of the Library by assisting in processing materials for students, faculty, and staff. This position supervises and staffs the Access Services Information Desk of the UNF Library. Staffing the Access Services Information Desk may include responsibility for the supervision of the library facility. This position provides customer service based on University, Library, and departmental policies and procedures, library systems and their use, and library collections. Access to and maintenance of confidential student/employment records is required. This position troubleshoots procedural and system-related problems on behalf of library users. This position may be responsible for monitoring the Librarys security system and other security and safety matters involving the library building ,collections, computers as well as operational concerns and closing the facility as scheduled. This position is required to maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to implement current department and Library-related policies and procedures. This position provides public service and access with respect to library materials and information in a courteous, positive and proactive manner. This position regularly interacts and must communicate with UNF faculty, staff and student users. This position staffs the library during weekend service hours, when support and staffing are extremely limited. Due to this requirement, punctuality and reliability are critical. Problem-solving and good judgement and decision making are routine requirements.

Job Function

Course Reserve Processing: This position processes course reserve requests which include library and faculty owned materials; retrieves library materials for placement on course reserve; contacts faculty members when processing is complete; routinely adds/removes materials on reserve; follows guidelines to ensure copyright; maintains and enforces library and university policies. Information Desk Activities: This position is responsible for responding to departmental inquiries; processing applications for library privileges; processing hold/recall transactions; receiving and returning library materials; circulating items including course reserves and interlibrary loan materials; providing bibliographic assistance; providing directional/library/ campus referral information to users; training and supervising student workers; assisting with stack maintenance; instructing and assisting with equipment use by library patrons. Works on special projects as assigned.

Marginal Functions

Knowledge of automated circulation systems, library policies, services andgeneral department procedures, academic research library operations,bibliographic searching techniques and the research process, email, theInternet, and specialized automated systems and networked applications.Ability to enforce pertinent laws, codes, policies, and rules affecting andprotecting the Library and its users. Ability to work collegially in a diverseenvironment with library staff and the University community. Ability tocommunicate effectively and courteously with library users. Ability to engagein problem-solving and decision-making. Ability to plan, set priorities,organize a work-related environment, and attend to detail. Ability to use andunderstand a library automated system. Ability to move, lift, sort, and shelvelibrary materials. Ability to operate offi ce equipment: phone, fax, copiers,microform reader/printers, etc.
