Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a responsible professional position assigned to the Quality Assurance team of the Bureau Public Health Laboratories with the title of BPHL Laboratory Outreach & Quality Assurance Coordinator. Duties are related to outreach for specimen collection sites. This position will support areas of QA activities. The position based at BPHL-Jacksonville will provide state-wide quality assurance and outreach activities. For QA, this position will support the Quality Manager and work on activities including compliance with specimen submission and improve specimen quality. This will also include outreach to county health departments who are the largest submitters to BPHL for testing. This outreach will provide education and training on BPHL services as well as specimen submission guidance. Considerable independent judgment is required to plan and organize the work of this section. Duties are performed under general supervision. The position entails travel in the state of Florida and the possibility of travel out of state to learn best practices from another state public health laboratory.
Work to develop training materials for providers, CHDs, and other clients for specimen collection and submission to the BPHL. Training materials include printed materials, binders, and training aids to provide outreach to clinical specimen submitters to improve the pre-analytical efficiency of BPHL operations.
Travel to some CHDs to provide training to staff.
Performs related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of terminology, principles, and techniques used in analysis, testing, and quality assurance.
Ability to learn the required specimen handling & equipment used for specimen collection.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
Minimum - Some medical laboratory experience, the ability to understand basic QA terms and tasks.
Preferred – Moderate knowledge and understanding of terminology, principles, and techniques used in analysis, testing, and quality assurance.
