SUMMARY Dynamic and solution-oriented risk management professional with expertise in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), commercial insurance, risk financing, and risk management best practices. This collaborative leader thrives in team-oriented environments, driving process improvements and sharing expertise. Responsible for ERM facilitation, framework process management, managing assigned insurance programs, and maintaining relationships with brokers, actuaries, and related service providers. Additionally, this role leads risk efforts for special projects, including transactional and M&A activities, and project-specific insurance needs, while overseeing risk financing through captive insurance operations. This position requires close collaboration with various departments, including legal claims, treasury, sustainability, safety, security, labor relations, and HR. Reporting directly to the VP, Risk Management, who in turn reports to the CFO, the role ensures alignment of risk management strategies with organizations objectives. Recognized by risk industry professionals as a subject matter expert with excellent relationship management, communication, and presentation skills. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES · Enterprise Risk Management (ERM): · Lead the development, facilitation, and continuous enhancement of the ERM framework, including risk registers and dashboards, ensuring alignment with and informed by the organization’s strategic objectives and regulatory requirements. · Facilitate the ERM process to identify, evaluate, and prioritize risks across the organization. · Create communication plans to ensure regular updates from risk owners and approvers to the risk register and any updates to risk mitigation and monitoring plans. · Partner with business units and other risk owner stakeholders to provide guidance in the development of mitigation strategies and monitoring of the effectiveness risk treatment plans. · Prepare and present periodic risk reports to senior leadership team. · Risk Financing and Captive Insurance Operations: · Manage risk financing strategies, including the evaluation and operation of the company’s captive insurance program. · Assess the adequacy of funding, structure, and performance of the captive to align with organizational risk appetite. · Collaborate with external actuaries, auditors, captive managers, and brokers on insurance underwriting analysis and financial performance. · Special Projects and Transactional Support: · Provide comprehensive insurance risk management support for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, including due diligence, transactional reviews, and integration planning. · Collaborate with legal, finance, and operations teams to structure project-specific insurance programs for new and ongoing initiatives. · Develop innovative insurance solutions for large-scale projects and new business opportunities, ensuring optimal coverage and cost efficiency. · Strategic Support and Collaboration: · Support claims, safety, and operational teams to identify and mitigate insurable exposures. · Assist the VP, Claims in claims and litigation processes as needed. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS · Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk management, or a related field. · One or more of the following professional designations: · Associate of Marine Insurance Management (AMIM) · Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) · Associate in Risk Management (ARM or ARM-ERM) · Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) · Risk & Insurance Management Society Fellow (RIMS Fellow) · Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) · Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) EXPERIENCE * 10 years of experience in risk management or a related field. TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY · Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams. · Experience with Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS). COMPETENCIES · Time management and attention to detail. · Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Leadership, integrity, and high performance in a collaborative team environment. · Expertise in interpreting and applying federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to risk and insurance. · Ability to manage complex projects and operate effectively in a matrix environment.
