Responsibilities

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Florida is recruiting a physician (MD/DO) or doctoral scientist (PhD) to serve as Associate Director of the ASHI and CAP accredited Histocompatibility/Transplant Immunology Laboratory. The state-of-the-art Laboratory supports growing clinical programs in solid organ transplantation (kidney, pancreas, heart, and lung) and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as well as other disciplines requiring immunogenetics and histocompatibility testing. In 2022, MCF teams transplanted 471 solid organ allografts, performed 197 stem cell transplants, and provided CAR-T therapy to 49 patients.

The Associate Director will work under the supervision of the laboratory Director to provide oversight of all Laboratory activities, new clinical test development and validation, quality improvement and accreditation processes, on-call service, and consultation to physicians on all testing performed by the laboratory in support of both solid organ and hematopoietic transplantation programs. The successful candidate will be expected to support trainee and faculty development in histocompatibility and clinical immunology through research collaboration, teaching, and participation in clinical conferences.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a medical degree (MD/DO) and be certified in clinical or combined anatomic/clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology to be eligible for an unrestricted Florida state medical license, or a doctoral degree (PhD) in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science with previous experience in clinical immunology and additional molecular pathology training/experience is preferred.

Candidates must be certified (or eligible) by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI/ACHI). Be credentialed (or eligible) by the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) as a Laboratory Director in the following areas of accreditation:

  • Solid Organ Transplantation: Live Donor

  • Solid Organ Transplantation: Deceased Donor

  • Hematopoietic Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplantation: Related Donor

  • Hematopoietic Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplantation: Unrelated Donor

  • Histocompatibility Testing for Other Clinical Purposes

  • Transfusion Support

Candidates certified (or eligible) in Molecular Pathology are preferred.
