The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) API Data Engineer is a member of the Web, Data, and Analytics team responsible for data engineering and programming to build systems that collect, manage and convert raw data into usable information for business analysts. This role is responsible for creating and maintaining data pipelines, databases, and an enterprise data warehouse.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement scalable and efficient Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for data integration and access.

  • Manage and process data flowing through APIs, ensuring accuracy and integrity.

  • Perform data transformation, validation, and aggregation as needed.

  • Develop and implement ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from diverse sources using ETL tools, SQL, Python and JavaScript.

  • Work with large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements.

  • Develop analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insights into key business performance metrics.

  • Implement security best practices to protect data and ensure API access is restricted to authorized users.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.

  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile ceremonies.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Experience with API frameworks and tools.

  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, and SQL.

  • Experience with diverse data formats such as XML/SOAP, JSON, and CSV.

  • Familiarity with various data connections, including ODBC, web services, APIs, and WSDLs.

  • Expertise in database and data warehousing architecture techniques.

  • Solid understanding of data modeling principles.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Ability to assess and address broad data needs.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems.

  • Adept at quickly learning and implementing new data tools and technologies.

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

    EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a developer or software engineer.

  • Two years of experience working in cloud platforms (e.g., Azure or AWS).

  • Two years of experience developing APIs.

  • Two years of experience coding in Python.

Preferences

  • Three years of experience using OpenAPI.

  • Three years of experience using AI platforms.

  • Two years of experience using Power BI.

  • Working knowledge of Databricks or Snowflake technology.

    EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.
