SOL is seeking to fill a critical position with an experienced, professional Engineering Manager who will be located at our Memphis, Tennessee, Huntsville, Alabama OR Jackson, Mississippi office. This position will have two to six direct reports consisting of other PE's, non-licensed engineers, and technicians. We desire an energetic, knowledgeable professional for this exciting role of leading our SMLP group. The Engineering Manager should have fifteen plus years of civil engineering experience specializing in infrastructure improvement projects in some of the following areas: water resources, wastewater treatment, transportation and transit systems design, stormwater management, site plan development, environmental support, and flood reduction/drainage system improvements. Specifically, the Engineering Manager will continuously organize, plan, oversee, and manage the efficient utilization of resources (personnel, equipment, tools, processes) and the profitable delivery of projects throughout every phase (problem identification, scope development, preliminary & final design, construction administration and project closeout) of a portfolio of projects. The Engineering Manager will ultimately ensure that proper resources are procured and utilized to ensure high quality services are consistently delivered in a timely, safe, and environmentally friendly manner.

Overview:

· Manages an engineering team consisting of engineers, scientists, and technicians.

· Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of Engineering Department to design,

process, project, develop, produce, improve, and test components, products, systems, and services, while achieving optimum use of workers, equipment, materials, and facilities.

· Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project

specifications and procedures.

Typical Functions:

· Analyzes technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.

· Plans and establishes engineering schedules and follows up performance against estimates.

· Manages development of material selection standards.

· Recommends and implements new policies and procedures as directed.

· Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, hiring, training, review, and approval of job descriptions and

salary classifications, selection and placement of personnel, performance evaluations, and salary adjustments.

· Initiates cost reduction proposals from other sources, compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for

action, and checks on results obtained.

· Prepares and controls department budget, forecasts operating costs of department, and directs preparation of budget

requests.

· Ensures compliance of company policies, procedures, and objectives regarding processes, initiatives, and projects.

· Works on or serves as a resource on projects requiring advanced knowledge of a particular field of specialization

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering; MBA or Master's in engineering preferred.

  • Must have a current Professional Engineer License

  • Have at least 15 years of relevant horizontal infrastructure systems improvement experience

  • Ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work with little supervision.

  • Must have project management and supervisory experience.

  • Experience in complex municipal infrastructure projects, including storm sewers, water main, wastewater, sanitary sewer, and roads.

  • Familiarity with a variety of computer packages including AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D.

  • Great mathematical and analytical skills with incredible problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to collaborate with many other internal teams and strategic partners.

  • Ability to create a set of qualifications and plans for new services.

  • Must have strong technical, soft oral and written skills.
