We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.As part of SCL, Cornell Dining is comprised of more than 30 on-campus eateries, including multiple all-access dining rooms, cafes, coffee shops, food courts, retail convenience stores, concessions stands, a restaurant, and catering services. From crafting holiday-themed meals to chef surprises and dining room special events, the Cornell Dining team of more than 400 skilled culinarians and front-line associates, and 600 student employees work hard every day to offer a variety of fresh and healthy food from all over the world. Under the direct supervision of the Senior Chef, the Floor Supervisor will oversee the basic operational duties that help ensure a memorable dining experience of assigned dining unit(s). Specifically, this includes supporting the daily supervision of staff, support on-the-job training efforts, monitor presentation and performance, as well as food safety, sanitation, and quality assurance items. Additionally, this position will regularly help support on-site client relations & elevated customer service interactions, which can often be sensitive, complex or involve high-level university officials, prominent alumni, trustees, world leaders, and dignitaries that require a high level of security.

A successful Floor Supervisor will:

  • Continue to grow, nurture, and develop a positive workforce by being a trusted and respected ally to staff and bringing forward any questions or concerns to the management team.
  • Be highly adaptable and flexible and work well in a constantly changing environment with significant physical demands.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and communicate effectively using tact, patience, and courtesy with team members and clients, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and problem-solving skills to plan, coordinate, and successfully deliver a range of services as well as respond quickly and effectively to multiple priorities, situations, and concerns with a high level of understanding, knowledge, and initiative.
  • Possess a professional and collegial demeanor while acting as the main point of contact for guests, staff, and clients, handling all day-to-day operations including collecting feedback, implementing departmental changes, and maintaining standards.
  • Ensure all federal/state requirements plus Dining and University policies and procedures are understood and maintained in a positive and consistent manner.

The position requires various hours including nights, weekends & holidays.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will be expected to work on campus.


Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree and at least two years of experience in catering or food service business or the equivalent combination of education or experience required.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Filemaker, or similar database software, and calendar management programs.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, including periods with significant walking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience and strong customer service and interpersonal skills are strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of food and health codes including certifications
  • Previous experience with Kronos, Event Master, and FSS systems.
