Who We Are

Research and Innovation (RI), led by the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VPRI), enables, and advances the University's research priorities as well as research activities of Cornell colleges, schools, and research centers, institutes, and laboratories.

The Cornell NanoScale Facility (CNF) is a world-class facility for micro and nanofabrication. Operating as an open user facility we assist users from across the country and around the world. Over 500 different individuals use CNF facilities every year. They include undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and professionals, both those experienced in nanotechnology as well as novices. Projects range from pure university research to product development for small and large companies. Our flexible equipment and policies allow us to undertake projects that would not be possible in many other nanofabrication environments.


What You Will Do

The Cornell NanoScale Facility is seeking an organized and detailed-oriented Program Extension Aide to support the efficient functioning of the facility. The Program Extension Aide will work under minimal supervision providing support to the Director of Operations, Lab Manager and facility staff. This position will coordinate meetings, events, REU student programs, facility publications, conference planning, social media, and website development and maintenance. This is a key support role within the facility. Along with providing administrative support, this person will also assist the youth outreach leader and assist the Directors. The incumbent must be able to interact effectively with a broad group of constituents, exercise a customer service demeanor, and exhibit excellent personal communication skills.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Coordinate all CNF events and meetings, including CNF annual meeting, New York State Nanotechnology symposium, social gatherings and other events as needed. Ensure appropriate conference room reservations for events and meetings are secured.
  • Manage all aspects of the TCN course (Technology & Characterization at the Nanoscale)
  • With support from technical staff, manage all aspects of Undergraduate Research Program, including advertising, recruitments, applications and application processing, project screening and selection, student travel and housing, reporting, and other related logistics
  • Work collaboratively with education and outreach leader to assist in the coordination of workforce development and outreach events.
  • Maintain and update CNF website and social media.
  • Prepare and coordinate all external public communications including newsletter, etc.
  • Create, edit, and manage content for CNF publications for print and digital publications. Includes preparation of Annual Research Accomplishments, a 200-page document with complex images, graphics, and technical content.
  • Assist with the arrangement and coordinate CNF facility tours.
  • Coordination the distribution of Nanooze magazine.

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience is required. A minimum of two years of related experience is required, preferably in research, technical, or public relations environment; Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Knowledge of publication software needed to perform printed and digital publications content.
  • Proficiency in all levels of professional communications is essential. Requires a high level of confidentiality and interpersonal skills. Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative with minimal supervision is a must. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work as part of a team in a busy, research-oriented environment is essential. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered, so those with less or more education and experience are encouraged to apply.

What We Prefer

Additionally, we would like to see evidence of:

  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign.
  • 1-2 years of Cornell experience is desirable.
  • Previous editorial or publications production experience is highly desirable.
