Ithaca College DIRECTOR, FAMILY GIVING in Ithaca, New York

Job Summary:

This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing strategies to secure philanthropic support from families of current or former students in support of the College’s fundraising goals. The Director, Family Giving is a frontline fundraising professional responsible for the management of a pool of prospects, comprised of alumni, current and former parents and families, with the capacity to make major gifts. This position will create and oversee a Parent and Family Council and will coordinate parent giving programs across campus working closely with schools and units. Prospect management includes discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors. Prospect relationships are developed around donor interests and college priorities. The Director both travels and utilizes on-campus events to develop and strengthen prospect relationships with the goal of transitioning them into major gift portfolios. Responsibilities also include development of written annual work plans, performance goals, and preparation of reports on activities. The Director is responsible for ensuring the integrity of information in the college's database relevant to assigned prospects, including visit reports, stages, strategies and tasks. They will participate in a broad range of events on and off campus having a strategic impact on the success of the major gifts program and individual prospect relationships. The Director works collaboratively with other staff in the Division of Advancement, as well as college administrators, faculty and staff.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, plan, implement and evaluate strategies to grow philanthropy from current and former family constituencies and alumni.

  2. Responsibilities include discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for portfolio of managed prospects. Portfolio will primarily focus on current and former parents & families, and major gift prospects.

  3. In conjunction with the Associate Vice President, establish prospect management goals for visits and solicitations.

  4. Solicit and close gifts at the major gift level. Responsibilities include development of strategy, preparation of proposals and materials, solicitation, closing and stewardship, including written documentation for accurate gift recording and use, acknowledgements and reporting.

  5. Travel regularly and participate in on-campus events to develop and strengthen prospect relationships, such as new student convocation, commencement, and Homecoming Weekend.

  6. Work with college partners including within the Division of Advancement, academic leaders, faculty, and senior leadership to develop meaningful engagement opportunities for leadership gift prospects.

  7. Maintain active management strategies for all prospects and ensure thorough and accurate recoding of reports on all visits and other prospect activity in the database.

  8. Develop and oversee parent giving initiatives, and create a Parent and Family Giving Council. Plan and implement volunteer engagement, stewardship and educational opportunities for Council members.

  9. Assist in the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers for various opportunities (for example: peer-to-peer solicitation efforts). Work with volunteers on special initiatives.

  10. Work with Donor Relations to identify parents and families to highlight donors as appropriate.

  11. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and three years directly related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; a strong commitment to higher education; demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships, including gift solicitation; experience working with volunteers and a proven track record of collaboration in a team environment; the ability to speak credibly about higher education and IC's mission and vision; ability to develop relationships with high net worth individuals in a broad range of professions; ability to travel extensively and attend college functions during and after normal business hours; deep personal integrity and strong work ethic are required. An understanding of major gifts and campaign funds are preferred.

This position is 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Range:

$75,000 - $80,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
