Federal Aviation Administration Aviation Safety Inspector, Assistant Principal Avionics Inspector ( Air Carrier Avionics) in Irving, Texas

Summary The Assistant Principal Avionics Inspector serves as a full assistant to a Principal Avionics Inspector performing the full range of certification, surveillance and inspection duties for assigned air carriers, air operators, air agencies, airmen, and designees. Has program responsibility to assure that assigned organizations meet Federal Aviation Regulations with respect to maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alteration programs. Responsibilities Assures on a continuing basis that facilities are properly and adequately organized, staffed, and equipped; have and conduct an adequate training program, including an acceptable record keeping system; and have facilities and procedures that meet all regulatory requirements. Chairs joint FAA-industry meetings; maintains regular contact with organizations assigned; and coordinates with top management officials. Requires or directs correction of any deficiencies/discrepancies and refuses or withdraws approval if they cannot be resolved. Develops maintenance program requirements through participation on Maintenance Review Boards. Coordinates Minimum Equipment List (MEL) approvals with the principal operations inspector. Takes enforcement action in instances of noncompliance with the MEL. Evaluates requests to operate under conditions not previously specified in the maintenance portion of the operations specifications and approves or disapproves. requests and provides additional conditions and limitations as needed. Directs the inspection and surveillance of the air carrier's continuous airworthiness maintenance program. Monitors all phases of the air carrier's maintenance operation, including the following: maintenance, engineering quality control, production control, training, and reliability programs. Analyzes trends to detect. a deterioration in the maintenance program. Analyzes reports submitted by the air carrier to ensure compliance with the maintenance program and assures the air carrier has an effective continuing analysis and surveillance program to meet the requirements of the FARs. Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for an Aviation Safety Inspector in the 1825 series as outlined in the OPM qualification standards. Aviation Safety Inspector positions have job-related medical requirements. When applicable, applicants must meet job-related medical requirements which will be assessed and validated during the pre-employment process. Medical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, with or without a reasonable accommodation. The minimum medical requirements include the following requirements: Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read, without strain, printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted); Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); and Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft. Applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector, Air Carrier Avionics positions must meet all of the following requirements. Aircraft avionics experience involving the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of installed avionics systems on aircraft. Avionics maintenance experience on aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight. Aircraft avionics work experience (which could include supervision or auditing) in a repair station; air carrier repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state, or Federal governmental agency within the last 3 years. (Recency of specialized experience is waived for current FAA employees in the 1825 series) AND In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, applicants for the FG-13 level must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression (FG-12), as an Aviation Safety Inspector, Air Carrier Avionics 1825. Examples of Specialized Experience include: Monitoring activities of organizations to determine whether they are following authorized programs and evaluating proposals to change programs. Planning and conducting inspections and surveillance of assigned areas of air carriers to assure compliance with Federal aviation regulations. Responsibility for the conduct of enforcement investigations and preparation of final reports and recommendations on disposition. Deciding whether facilities, equipment, materials, personnel, inspection methods and maintenance practices and techniques are satisfactory to assure airworthiness of aircraft; and approving manuals or requiring amendment thereto. Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
