A Day in the Life

The Integrated Business Planning (IBP) Leader provides a complete, unbiased, and objective understanding of how integrated planning actions impact the financial health of Operating Units (OUs) and regions. This role ensures an integrated view across OUs, regions, and functions to align growth, innovation, cost and service level commitments, financial goals, and operating mechanisms. The role also drives implementation of Integrated Business Planning and related operating mechanisms to drive organizational alignment between key stakeholders.

This dynamic leader steers the planning team within the OU or Region Led Market (RLM) to continually improve Medtronic’s IBP capability. This role will serve as a core part of the OU/RLM Leadership Team, partnering cross-functionally to drive the business’s integrated business plan, which is crucial for execution and goal planning across the OU.

In addition to IBP, this role will be responsible establishing the process and managing activities required to define, plan, manage and execute product lifecycle management for Neurovascular business.

Responsibilities for this role include:

Facilitating decision making

  • Plan Support/ Monitoring/ Execution: Deeply understand plan drivers and their effects, demonstrate accountability for plan process, responsibility for visibility of say-do dashboard, leveraging right mechanisms to identify gaps and bring attention to them, presenting the finalized forecast / financial impact for key stakeholder/ GM approval.

  • Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) decision making: Ensure process is generating clearly framed decisions, with options and scenarios for the GM, on unconstrained, constrained, and Free Cash Flow-linked plan (3-36 months), used for execution and goal planning.

  • Scenario Framing & Prioritization: Identify, prioritize, frame, and setup most likely impactful scenarios for deep dive analysis, developing strategies to mitigate risks and enhance likelihood of opportunities.

  • Tradeoff Decisions & Framing: Assess and balance tradeoffs and strategies to meet goals.

  • Sales & Operations Execution (S&OE): Accountable for aligning to the S&OE (0-13 weeks) process and ensuring escalations are fed back into overall IBP process.

Cross-functional Coordination

  • IBP bridge for OU/RLM Leadership Team: As an active Leadership Team member, act as the bridge between Strategy and Execution

  • Proactive communication & coordination: Proactively (and concisely) communicate and collaborate with OU Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales, and IBP team to integrate perspectives into strategic analysis and synthesize into a single plan

  • Trade-off assessment: Make forecast tradeoff decisions across different OU function needs.

  • Community of practice: Actively contribute to and foster a community of IBP Leaders.

Process Execution

  • Process execution: Run full OU/RLM end-to-end IBP process in line with strategic priorities, changes in portfolio, and best practices. Effectively coordinate and focus work toward important goals, prioritizing the right activities that lead to success.

  • Risk monitoring: Understand and track IBP metrics and risks across the value chain and assign actions to prevent leakage.

  • Process status: Track process health within the OU, designing performance improvement plans as needed.

  • Change Leadership: Manage IBP process and product changes via direction from centralized IBP team.

  • Data quality: Act as escalation point for data quality issues and hold input owners and data stewards accountable.

People Leadership

  • Analysis oversight / expertise/judgment: Oversee IBP-related analysis in the OU, advocate for appropriate standardization (on dashboard, timing), drive strategy development, and ensure adherence to IBP strategy, supporting team members and providing business guidance, framing support, and sense checks as needed.

  • Coaching and development: Coach, develop, and train IBP team members — including step owners and facilitators. Model desired behaviors.

  • Leading through influence: Influence behaviors, have credibility to flag issues, understand and navigate matrix, drive the conversation.

  • Feedback: Provide feedback to teams on process and tool improvements

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Implement Product Lifecycle Management strategy & process including phase in/out of products and integrate with IBP

  • Identify and advocate for projects and funding necessary to maintain a healthy commercial portfolio including product rationalization

  • Align OU functions on planning, execution, budget management, and issue management in alignment with product lifecycle sustainment plans

  • Monitor execution progress toward established objectives, assess risk, and implement strategies to ensure successful delivery of the product portfolio

  • Maintain effective communication with the Operating Unit leadership team, team members and functional leadership (Functional VPs and Directors) in all activities required to design, develop, and deliver the product successfully

Skills and experience

Must have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related discipline.

  • 15+ years applicable experience (13+ with a graduate degree) - Global Product or Upstream Marketing, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Program Management, Finance or Sales Operations. Management experience within an OU, region or function (operations, marketing, sales, or finance)

  • Background in process improvements, product launches, production, or demand planning

  • International experience or experience working with global sales organizations

Nice to have:

  • Preferred Qualifications: MBA, or other advanced degree related to healthcare, life sciences, or other technical field with demonstrated financial and business acumen.

  • Prior experience in managing by influence across multiple teams/groups across the organization and presenting to all levels of the organization and worked in a team-based environment which places high degree of emphasis on accountability (e.g., service levels, product launches, inventory management)

  • Change management experience, including a deep understanding of stakeholders (OU/regions/functions) and ability to develop and drive change management plans.

  • Knowledge of demand management/forecasting tools, forecasting processes in sales, marketing operations, finance, manufacturing, and supply chain

  • Deep financial and business acumen; understand P&L and balance sheet including levers that impact cash, margin, and revenue

  • Demonstrated skills in building trust, influencing without authority, communication, negotiation, and driving results through a global matrix structure.

  • Innovative and proactive; solution orientation and continuous improvement mindset

  • Proven ability to make strategic decisions, work under time pressure, and exercise good judgment within complex situations.

  • Ability to build a broad, cross-functional network within the organization, and navigate the matrix by understanding the vital connection points between commercial and operational functions.

  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills with bias for action and data-based decision-making.

  • Curiosity (the ability to ask ‘why’ questions); helping others remain curious, creating psychological safety

  • Ability to guide team in creating achievable milestones toward the vision/objective and break down barriers (i.e., what's stopping people from doing what it takes).

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$204,800.00 - $307,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
