The Global Procurement Technology, as a fundamental pillar of Global Procurement Operations, is looking for a skilled Data Engineer to contribute to related engineering activities and help build its future data ecosystem. This team plays a strategic role supporting the core Procurement business domains as well as being the cornerstone of any transformation and innovation initiative. Our mission is to provide a high-quality data environment to facilitate process optimization and business digitalization on a global scale. We are supporting various initiatives, including but not limited to:

• strategic supplier sourcing

• contract management

• spend analytics

• order management

• supplier risk and performance analysis

Key job responsibilities

As a Sr. Data Engineer in the team, you will:

• create data strategy and architecture to incrementally build data products

• lead design and development of highly scalable database systems to support transactional use cases, as well as business analytics and reporting

• design and implement AI-based data solutions

• be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for data solutions, while striving for efficiency by aligning data product initiatives with business goals

• cooperate with different groups of stakeholders, e.g. engineers, scientists, product/program managers, leadership, etc. to properly evaluate any requirements or dependencies and recommend optimal solutions to the problems

• lead a team of data engineers to define data standards and best practices, share knowledge, develop their skills and support their career growth

Some of the projects this team is working on:

• A Supplier Trusted Data Repository, utilized not only by the Procurement org but pan-Amazon

• A Data Cataloguing application

• A Data Quality Framework with related Services

• A Manual Data Ingestion Management Framework

• An ETL Self-Serve Framework for tech (and non-tech) users to easily set up data pipelines to feed applications and analytics/reporting

Basic Qualifications

• 6+ years of data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence or business analytics experience

• Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

• Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

• Experience mentoring team members on best practices

• Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing data sets from multiple sources

• Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets

• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy

• Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices on data engineering

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR

• Experience operating large data warehouses

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $139,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $240,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
