Job Description
Overview:
The In Vitro Associate Scientist II, as part of Local Delivery Translational Sciences (LDTS) at the Irvine, California site at AbbVie is responsible for developing and applying novel physiologically relevant in vitro models to characterize drug, biologic, formulation and sustained delivery formulation (e.g. sustained release implants) performance, erosion, and safety/tolerability. The In Vitro Associate Scientist II serves as a subject matter expert collaborating with colleagues in Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Pre-Clinical Safety, and other research functions to design in vitro experiments and develop novel in vitro models to address needs of AbbVie projects, specifically for botulinum toxin, eye care and aesthetics therapeutic areas.
As a member of a small team, this individual will independently develop and perform in vitro and related bioanalysis studies, document experiments, prepare formal reports, and present findings to key stakeholders, This individual should be a self-starter who is eager to learn and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, with a desire to make an impact by interacting closely with scientists from other disciplines and functional areas.
Responsibilities:
Perform in vitro experiments to address key questions for botulinum toxin, eye care, and aesthetics projects to aid in developing local delivery and sustained release products.
Search and monitor external literature for ideas, technologies, and potential external collaborators to identify opportunities for creating, adopting or using new in vitro models.
Aid in developing and evaluating novel in vitro models that mimic ocular, intramuscular or other relevant physiological environments.
Perform experiments in a select agent laboratory.
Write study plans, protocols, SOPs, topline data summaries, and present to relevant colleagues.
Write formal study reports for submission to regulatory agencies as needed.
Qualifications
MS (with no additional experience needed) or BS with 3 or more years of related experience.
Knowledge and experience developing in vitro models and/or cell-based assays.
Experience with ligand binding assays (e.g. ELISAs) to quantify biologic drug candidates is highly desirable.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated record of successful collaborations with scientists, including those from different disciplines and areas of expertise.
Preferred Experience
Working knowledge of culturing of primary and immortalized mammalian cell cultures.
Basic understanding of widely used in vitro assays (ELISA, MTT, etc.)
Experience characterizing in vitro drug release of long-acting injectable formulations and developing novel sustained drug delivery technologies,
Experience with Quanterix, MSD and other ligand binding platforms is helpful.
Experience working with select agents (e.g. botulinum toxin).
Basic understanding of pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism.
Experience with ocular or dermal drug development is helpful.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
