Job Title: Clinical Lab Scientist IJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Clinical Lab Scientist I to join our small, yet globally impactful molecular diagnostic company. This role involves performing both manual and automated technical procedures related to specimen preparation, operating laboratory instruments, and ensuring accurate documentation of testing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all manual technical procedures related to specimen preparation, specimen type, protocols, and procedures.

  • Operate automated laboratory instrumentation, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair as required.

  • Consistently and accurately transcribe patient test results from raw data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

  • Accurately document all testing activities, including patient specimens, proficiency testing, quality control results, and instrument maintenance/calibration.

  • Identify problems that may affect test performance or results and notify Laboratory Operations Management or the Laboratory Director.

  • Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.

  • Inspect, label, and store incoming materials from the QC Department.

  • Contact suppliers regarding the performance of laboratory reagents and equipment for troubleshooting purposes.

  • Maintain and document records in real-time, including department logs, files, and worksheets.

  • Communicate effectively regarding laboratory results requiring immediate attention.

  • Train and cross-train licensed CLS and non-CLS employees.

  • Administer and perform competency assessment testing as scheduled.

  • Complete assigned tasks in MasterControl within required timeframes.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of US Diagnostic Lab experience within the past 2 years, or newly graduated CLS with previous US lab experience.

  • Active Generalist or CGMBS license.

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution.

  • Current State of California license.

  • Very good communication skills for coordination across multiple shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Genetic Molecular Biology experience (Real Time PCR).

  • Experience with LIMS and LIS systems.

  • Basic knowledge of molecular diagnostics.

  • Outgoing personality.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to small company culture.

  • ASCP Certification preferred.

Work Environment

The work environment includes a small molecular lab that requires dynamic and flexible staff. The lab performs many newer assays and molecular techniques manually. Available shifts include Sunday to Thursday from 4 am to 12:30 pm, Sunday to Thursday from 4 pm to 12:30 am, and Tuesday to Saturday from 4 pm to 12:30 am. The role involves clear and effective communication, willingness to ask for support, and the ability to work effectively in a close-knit team.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $76960.00 - $95680.00
