CBC Nunavut delivers news and current affairs through our digital, radio and television platforms in both Inuktitut and English.

Your role

CBC Igalaaq is looking for a dynamic new TV Host for our Igalaaq program. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in Nunavut storytelling with a compelling online presence, active on social media.

We are looking for:

  • A great listener and storyteller, someone with the ability to connect with people from all walks of life and experience.

  • You have demonstrated live hosting experience in a variety of different situations.

  • Curiosity, openness to diverse perspectives and ideas, and a positive attitude are a must in our successful candidate.

Function:

  • Performs a variety of tasks associated with the preparation and on-air presentation of program material on TV.

  • The Host plays a collaborative role in writing, producing and the development and execution of the program.

  • Work is governed by CBC programming and/or journalistic policies and standards.

  • There is a requirement for creativity, initiative and independent judgment.

Key Tasks:

  • Contributes to the planning, design, organization and presentation of Igalaaq

  • Maintains their subject matter expertise in fields relevant to the focus of TV program(s).

  • Participates in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the program(s) and/or the Corporation.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Excellent Inuktitut language is required, with strong English.

  • Relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry and an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to Nunavutmmiut and Igalaaq.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, engagement and use of social media and digital platforms to connect with audiences. Well-established digital and social media presence.

  • Proven storytelling skills on all media platforms.

  • Broad experience and interests from news and current affairs and the understanding of the value of these to our Northern audience.

  • Broad knowledge of Nunavut communities with experience living and travelling in different parts of the North is considered an asset.

  • Interest and knowledge of:

  • The social, political and cultural life of Nunavut, the North and Canada.

  • Inuit culture, values, language and history, current events and happenings in the communities.

  • Broadcasting, social media, digital communications

  • Interest in new tools and technology (example: radio, audio, video, social media)

  • Working in teams, mentoring and inspiring others.

Subjective Criteria:

  • Engaging, warm, curious and bold on-air and online personality.

  • Highly-developed ability to write engaging stories and engage in social media in their own voice.

  • Ability to ad lib, be spontaneous on the air.

  • Knowledgeable journalist and nuanced thinker. Commitment to public broadcasting.

  • Ability to function effectively and cooperatively in a small team and under a high level of stress.

  • Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure and in live programming.

  • Ability to build relationships and contacts inside and outside CBC Nunavut.
