QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Iowa Teaching License

  • Iowa Endorsement K-6 Teacher Elementary Classroom

  • Early Childhood Endorsement preferred

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: The Kindergarten Teacher will be responsible for meeting the academic, physical, and socio-emotional needs of the children in kindergarten, in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. Utilization of developmentally appropriate practices for young children is an expectation. The teacher will create an environment that facilitates learning, personal growth and care. The teacher is expected to establish positive working relationships with all staff members as well as parents.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and maintain standards of child behavior in order to create a safe and orderly, teaching and learning environment.

  • Create a learning environment based on current and appropriate research in the area of early childhood.

  • Provide whole group, small-group, and individual instruction designed to meet the individual needs of children in the kindergarten program.

  • Develop daily and long-range lesson plans to provide whole group, small group, and individual student experiences appropriate to the needs of each child.

  • Teach the district approved curriculum using district adopted instructional materials.

  • Implement developmentally appropriate instructional practices and approaches in working with young children.

  • Evaluate children’s intellectual and social growth, keep appropriate records and assist in preparing progress reports.

  • Provide immediate and specific feedback to students regarding their academic progress.

  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss a child’s development and interpret the early childhood and school program.

  • Maintain professional competence through participation in building and district staff development activities.

  • Participate in team and building meetings as well as projects and parent related activities.

  • Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with support staff.

  • Supervise students in out-of-class activities during the assigned work-day.

  • Fulfill conditions in the negotiated agreement.

  • Assume other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year as established by the Board of Directors. Salary established by district adopted salary schedules.

EVALUATION: Teaching performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
