The Position
Work at the forefront of animal health innovation! Join our team as a Patent Attorney, where you'll secure global patent exclusivity for our products and develop project-specific patent strategies.
Collaborate with international teams, manage patent portfolios, and provide expert counsel on patent matters. Your role will be crucial in safeguarding our freedom to operate, supporting IP enforcement, leveraging the potential of external innovations, and making a direct impact on our product launches and ongoing business.
Tasks & responsibilities
In your new role you will ensure the worldwide patent exclusivity for our animal health products, safeguard know-how and our freedom to operate for research, development, production and commercialization, with a focus on new chemical entities.
You will work in international cross-functional development teams, where you will develop and implement project specific patent strategies for our products and services.
In R&D projects, you will pinpoint patenting opportunities, draft and file patent. applications, manage patent portfolios for specific projects, and handle worldwide patent grant proceedings.
Moreover, you will provide opinion work to safeguard Boehringer Ingelheim’s freedom to operate and support the enforcement and defense of the company's IP in both litigation and pre-litigation matters.
With your knowledge you will assess patent situations in connection with R&D projects as well as cooperation, licensing, and due diligence projects.
Not least, you will formulate IP concepts for the animal health sector, draft relevant IP clauses in contracts, and provide patent counselling in interdisciplinary teams, project groups, and with external partners.
Requirements
M.Sc./ diploma or doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutics, or related discipline with several years of experience in practicing patent law in a patent law firm or corporate patent department
European Patent Attorney or equivalent qualification at a national patent office (or partial (EQE) qualification)
Experience in managing complex projects and working in a matrix organization and in interdisciplinary teams
Good understanding of the interface of patent law and commercial business aspects
Cooperative, independent way of working and efficient self-management skills with a professional authority
Fluent in English; knowledge of the German language beneficial but not mandatory
