Position Summary
Position is responsible for complete oversight, direction, and control over operational district maintenance garages, and the Park maintenance facilities within assigned district. Incumbent will be involved in the structuring, and allocation of all resources, including but not limited to; personnel, vehicles, equipment, materials, and budgetary funds. Responsibilities also include hiring, assigning, developing, promoting, and termination of subordinates.
Position Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, leads, and controls all resources, processes, and programs involving operational maintenance, and park maintenance facilities.
Monitors work output and complaint resolution of all subordinates. Ensures repair, maintenance and improvement of all district and park assets are done in a craftsmanship cost effective manner.
Monitors budgetary funds allocated and spent within assigned districts.
Establishes good working relationships with the bargaining unit and applicable City personnel.
Assists in the development and promotion of a safe and productive working environment for all subordinates.
Ensure that the streets, sidewalks, trail-ways are clear of weather related events, and are made passable as conditions as possible.
Advises superiors and the public information officer of any situation that could adversely impact the image or perception of the City.
Ensures adherence to the City of Indianapolis' Policy and Procedure Manual regarding the hiring and termination of subordinates, planning and scheduling work by setting priorities and goals, reviewing an evaluating work product and performance, monitoring progress of work upon completion of assignments, directing the training of subordinates, and providing counseling and disciplinary action.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, which includes at least two (2) years of supervisory experience. Any combination of related education and/or work experience totaling nine (9) years is acceptable. A working knowledge of local, state, and federal rules, regulations, ordinances and other pertinent documents. Knowledge of planning, directing, supervising and reviewing the work of others engaged in street and park maintenance. Applicant should have proficient knowledge with MS Office; Word Excel, and Outlook; with strong office management experience. Ability to maintain professional demeanor in stressful situations at all times while resolve problems. Ability to multitask, prioritize and work independently as well as within a team with a variety of personalities. Able to easily change priorities and direction as the need arises. Creatively solve problems with a critical eye for detail. Take a high degree of ownership in their role on the team. Excellent writing skills and verbal communication commands are required. Ability to obtain and retain a valid Indiana Driver's license for continued employment.
Independent Judgment
A very high degree of independent judgment is required for making decisions. There will be instances where policies, procedures, rules and regulations do not exist for all situations that could be encountered. Errors in judgment will adversely affect the perception and image of the City relating to street and park maintenance. This could result in excessive liability, embarrassment and expense for the Department and the City. A supervisor is infrequently available to provide instruction or direction.
