The Role

The Planning and Engineering Guidelines Team provides company-wide Planning and Engineering organizations with guidance necessary to perform their jobs more efficiently and accurately in compliance with Lumen standards, as well as OSHA, Uniform Building Code, National Electric Code and engineering best practices.

The team is comprised of subject matter experts who develop, train and maintain Architecture and Configuration guidelines and various tools that depict the standard, approved Lumen equipment that can be planned, engineered and installed in the network. The PEG tools address approved equipment and material for Data, Access, Transport, Voice, Video, OSP Environmental, Common Systems and Power.

Standards increase efficiency, reduce/optimize cycle time, drive cost savings, ensure quality, and assist in network reliability resulting in one network designed to provide excellent customer products and services.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Recognized as an authority in the development of network architecture.

  • Utilizes advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts, and technologies to address exceptionally complex problems and challenges

  • Highly self-driven individual with strong problem-solving skills, a keen sense of urgency, and a deep commitment to accountability

  • Collaborates with Architecture, Planning, Operations, Lab, and IT systems teams to implement equipment and designs essential for the evolution of the global Internet backbone.

  • Manages multiple intricate projects that necessitate additional technical network knowledge.

  • Makes well-considered decisions on complex or ambiguous architectural issues.

  • Coordinates with users, both internal and external vendors to ascertain requirements.

  • Develops and maintains standard, approved equipment guidelines, configurations, and tools, primarily supporting planning, engineering, and installation.

  • Establishes and communicating unified goals and network standards direction.

  • Provides direction, training, and guidance as a resource for less experienced staff.

  • Prepares and delivers PEG training focused on tools and equipment.

  • Requires limited direction and guidance

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years’ experience (or equivalent network architecture and equipment/software subject matter expertise)

  • Excellent documentation/technical writing skills required

  • Strong troubleshooting skills

  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Visio and Web based design, (HTML preferred)

Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

Location Based Pay Ranges

$80,510 - $107,340 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.

$84,740 - $112,980 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.

$88,980 - $118,630 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.

$93,210 - $124,280 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
