Old Dominion Freight Line Operations Intern in Indianapolis, Indiana

To learn OD operations and culture while learning safe and effective ways to load and unload freight and complete several projects throughout the internship, eventually “filling-in” for the operations supervisor during the last few weeks of the program
Primary Responsibilities
Learn dock operations by shadowing team members and various supervisors and managers at the location
Learn to effectively and safely operate a forklift
Assist in securing freight inside trailers, learning appropriate tools and supplies
Participate in monitoring the daily safety of each employee
Learn and participate in evaluating and teaching safe lifting techniques
Learn proper loading and unloading techniques and ensure compliance
Learn the service center operations and make suggestions for improvements
Learn DOT and OSHA regulations and ensure compliance
Learn to effectively use computer/internal freight monitoring systems
Develop an understanding of various forms such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, overage/damage movement reports and exception forms
Successfully complete projects as assigned
Job Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent, currently attending college
Experience:
Willingness to learn operations and complete assigned projects
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Great interpersonal skills with a positive attitude
Working Days:
Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,
Working Shift:
AM / PM
