About the State Comptroller's Office:

The mission of the State Comptroller’s Office is to carry out the constitutional responsibilities of the Comptroller by: Informing the public about the Indiana State government’s finances; Maintaining the State’s financial records and reports and paying the State’s bills and employees accurately and efficiently; Taking a leadership role in the development of the State’s financial policy; Upholding the public’s trust and confidence by ensuring that Hoosier’s tax dollars are accounted for and spent transparently; Serving as a check and balance within the executive branch to sustain accountability among state and local governmental entities and; Providing quality customer service to all who conduct business with the State of Indiana.

Role Overview:

Incumbent serves as Audit Payment Specialist for the Office of State Auditor, auditing payment vouchers to be approved for payment. Other job duties may include researching and canceling or reissuing payments; process and reporting 1099s, and coordinating office retention records.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $49,114 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

  • Audits all payments submitted to the office by ensuring that state agencies are compliant with the State’s accounting manual, policies, statutes, and codes.

  • Other Duties may include, but not limited to:

  • Responsible for filing, storing, and retrieving accounts payable, payroll, and settlement records.

  • Maintain processed payment files.

  • Backup support for the Service Center

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Two years of professional-related experience.

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.

  • PeopleSoft Financials experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of accounts payable process.

  • Ability to understand and identify risks.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, as well as co-workers in a courteous and tactful manner.

  • Possess attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • The complexity of the work is repetitive, restricted in scope but of substantial intricacy, involving several variables or considerations with inter-relationships that are not clearly evident.

  • The nature of instructions and guidelines for work is generally accepted but is not always clearly applicable. Judgment is needed in selecting the most pertinent guidelines, interpreting precedents, and adapting standard formulas, methods, or procedures to fit facts and conditions.
