GCG Application Engineer - Automation and Motion in Indianapolis, Indiana
Overview
GCG Automation and Factory Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Application Engineer to join our team! This role serves as a critical technical support pillar for the sales team, specializing in Automation Controls, Motion Controls, and related products.
In this role, you will interact directly with customers to assess their needs, recommend optimal technologies, and provide a comprehensive material list for application requirements. You'll work closely with sales teams, providing start-up assistance and ensuring seamless support to Industrial, OEM, and End-User customers. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement however travel to customer sites in and around the Indiana area will be required (30% travel). Accordingly, candidates must be located in the greater Indianapolis area to be considered for the role.
What You’ll Do
Present, promote, and demonstrate electrical components like automation products, motion control products, and other related items to prospective customers.
Provide technical support and product knowledge to both the sales force and customers, ensuring they understand the features and benefits of the products.
Work with the sales team across all AFS brands to help close sales for all related products.
Utilize vendor software to size and select PLC/HMI automation products, servo/VFD motion control products, and develop bills of materials to be quoted to customers.
Maintain product demonstration units in full working order for customer demonstrations.
Attend various technical training events to reinforce and expand product knowledge.
Collaborate with sales and customer service to provide a seamless customer experience.
Lead training classes on automation and related electrical products.
Travel requirements: approximately 30%.
Use CRM software to manage customer accounts and track sales opportunities and activities.
What You’ll Bring
Required : Associate’s Engineering Degree (Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred), Technical Degree, or Industry Experience Equivalent.
Preferred : Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial) or equivalent experience.
Required : 3–4 years of industry experience.
Preferred : 5+ years of experience working with electrical distributors, engineers, purchasing, and industrial clients. Familiarity with PLC, Motion Control, Sensors, Safety Devices/Switches, and Fluid Power. Proven track record in Application/Sales within the electrical components industry.
Required : Positive attitude, self-motivation, goal orientation, and proficiency in math, algebra, and computer applications.
Preferred : Skills in trigonometry, calculus, and professional writing.
