Position Title : Lab Support Technician II

Compensation Range: $22.00 - $25.50 per hour ( e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as locations, education, experience, and skillset).

Hours Worked : Onsite Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 3:00PM. Pre-scheduled rotational weekend and holiday “on-call” coverage 6am-6pm, only coming in 1-3 hours if needed (very rare). Flexibility required for potential changes in work shift hours to meet department needs.

Position Summary:

The Veterinary Assistant provides health care support to laboratory animals and general support for discovery research. Animal Care operates under the direction of management to ensure a quality and compliant animal care and use program. Veterinary Resources is part of the larger research laboratories. This is a crucial role in supporting the internal in vivo research while ensuring high standards of animal health and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Observes laboratory animals for indications of poor health or rodent disease.

  • Assists veterinary team to triage and provide immediate care to emergency cases and escalates issues as appropriate.

  • Consults with veterinarians and research personnel on treatment options.

  • Administers clinical treatments, collects diagnostic samples, and administers euthanasia when necessary.

  • Reports issues of protocol, SOP or policy non-compliance.

  • Maintains animal health records and integrity of information.

  • Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures

  • Comply with clients and company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies

  • Follow the guidelines set forth by clients in the company Quality Manual and Safety/Chemical Hygiene Plan

  • Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.

  • Awareness and general understanding of established and proposed federal, state and local regulations, guidelines and policies relating to laboratory animal science.

  • Awareness and general understanding of provisions set forth in the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals".

Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in a related field.

  • Certified vet tech CVT qualification preferred

  • Minimum of one year of experience working directly with animals.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
