United States Steel Department Manager - Quality Assurance in Indiana

Successful candidate will have experience leading a team responsible for Quality Assurance for a manufacturing company in Gary, IN. Position will engage with operations to drive quality metrics, maintain SRI certifications, execute continuous improvement strategies, and ensure the highest product performance resulting in customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Evaluate and drive improvement in unit diversions, reworks, and customer claims. Lead and drive appropriate corrective actions and put in place production quality gates to prevent products defects.

  • Work with sales and customer service groups to address customer complaints and claims, coordinate customer visits, and improve customer delight with steel products.

  • Work collaboratively with plant operating leadership teams to evaluate and improve quality processes, culture, and systems to maximize operational capabilities & efficiencies.

  • Manage and lead cross functional teams focused on development, quality, yield, and delivery making recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Develop and deliver appropriate reports to plant leadership and executive corporate management.

  • Ensure proper procedures and processes are in places to prevent non-confirming product from being produced or getting to the final customer.

  • Maintain ISO and IATF certifications which includes management of the corresponding control systems, internal and external audit programs, and document and record control throughout the unit.

  • Operate in a heavy industry environment with a unionized workforce.

  • Manage all facets of a team of QA engineers, including hiring, retention, coaching and developing, setting performance objectives, and conducting performance reviews.

Requirements:

  • A technical B.S. degree, with mechanical, metallurgical or manufacturing engineering.

  • Preferred candidate will have 8 years experience in QA management.

  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, such as ISO 9001 and TS 16949

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen as well as communicate with all stakeholders, including his or her team, customers, vendors and regulatory agencies.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with statistical process control and other quality control tools and techniques.
