As a Hardware Engineer at Viasat, you will play a crucial role in crafting flawless digital hardware designs for high-frequency FPGAs, ASICs, processors, and RF circuits. You will lead design projects from initial requirements definition to detailed design, and ultimately, successful transition to full-rate production. With a consistent record and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, you will help us achieve our high-reaching goals. The day-to-day Take a lead design role in new product development, from requirements definition to detail design and full-rate production. Conduct detailed design architecture, design trade studies, and evaluate innovative forward-looking solutions. Define and document detailed hardware requirements. Design high-speed digital hardware involving processors, SDRAM, FPGA, Ethernet, and SERDES operating at >32Gbps. Develop DC to DC converters for various digital voltages and high currents. Design Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs) for low ripple DC/DC converters and simulate power distribution networks. Gather schematics using Mentor Graphics DxDesigner and Hyperlynx. Perform hardware design verification testing and solving using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, multimeters, etc. Apply RF test equipment like spectrum analyzers and signal generators. Travel up to 10% as necessary. US citizenship is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. What you'll need 5+ years of proven experience in digital hardware design. Proven experience with design architecture, design trade studies, and innovative solution evaluations. Expertise in requirements definition and documentation. Strong background in high-speed digital design involving processors, SDRAM, FPGA, Ethernet, and SERDES operating at >32Gbps. Experience with DC to DC converters for various digital voltages and high currents. Proficient in crafting Printed Wiring Boards for low ripple DC/DC converters and simulating power distribution networks. Proficiency in schematic collection using Mentor Graphics DxDesigner and Hyperlynx. Skilled in hardware design verification testing and troubleshooting with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, multimeters, etc. Familiarity with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers and signal generators. Location preference is Independence, OH office (hybrid); will consider someone who can commute to a Viasat lab/office in another US location (hybrid). Experienced in Verilog or VHDL, and familiar with Xilinx or Altera FPGA design tools. Strong background in digital logic design for FPGAs or ASICs. Eagerness to work with both FPGA designs and sophisticated digital board designs. RF design experience. Experience in space hardware and/or digital logic design. Strong troubleshooting skills.
