SANITATION SUPERVISOR

Basic Func on
Under the direc on of the Assistant Public Works Director, the Sanita on Department Supervisor oversees and manages\ a variety of sanita on programs, including the collec on and disposal of trash, garbage, and recyclables. Providing excep-
onal customer service to the ci zens is the highest priority, ensuring that all interac ons are handled with professional-\ ism and responsiveness. This posi on also ensures opera ons comply with local, state, and federal regula ons, enforces\ sanita on ordinances, and provides effec ve leadership to department staff.
Essen al Du es and Responsibili es\ Leadership and Supervision:
Supervise and direct sanita on department staff, ensuring effec ve performance and a posi ve work environ-\ ment.
Assign daily work schedules, routes, and tasks to maximize efficiency and meet service goals.\ Conduct performance evalua ons, provide coaching, and promote professional development.
Opera onal Oversight:\ Ensure compliance with safety regula ons by conduc ng regular safety training and monitoring staff prac ces.\ Oversee vehicle and equipment maintenance, scheduling repairs, and ensuring opera onal readiness.\ Address and resolve customer complaints promptly to maintain high levels of community sa sfac on.
Program Management:\ Maintain accurate records of routes, vehicle maintenance, employee performance, and regulatory compli-
ance.\ Promote con nuous improvement in sanita on opera ons and implement ini a ves to enhance efficiency.\ Par cipate in emergency response planning and manage sanita on services during emergencies.
Addi onal Du es:\ Perform minor repairs on trucks and equipment as necessary.\ Drive assigned routes or operate equipment as needed to support staff.\ Enforce sanita on ordinances and regula ons in the community.
Qualifica ons
Skills and Knowledge:\ Strong understanding of equipment, materials, and policies related to waste collec on and disposal.\ Ability to effec vely organize and supervise staff and communicate with customers, employees, and officials.\ Proficient in basic computer applica ons, including route management and record-keeping systems.
Licenses and Cer fica ons Required:\ A valid Kansas Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required.

Educa on and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelors degree in a related field is preferred.\ Minimum of 35 years of experience in sanita on, public works, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory
role.\ Proficiency in opera ng and maintaining equipment and vehicles.\ \ Physical Requirements\ Ability to perform intense physical tasks, including li ing up to 50 lbs and working in varying weather condi ons.\ Capacity to stand, walk, sit, climb, kneel, push, pull, speak, and listen for extended periods.
Working Condi ons
Exposure to moderate risk of accidents; adherence to safety procedures is required.\ Must be available for nights, over me, weekends, and emergency responses as needed.
SALARY RANGE: The salary range for this posi on is \$20.90 to \$30.31 per hour plus benefits, depending on qualifica ons\ and experience.
