Battelle Energy Alliance dba Idaho National Laboratory Research Engineer in Idaho Falls, Idaho

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Research Engineer to work in our Material Acquisition & Research Engineering department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

Material Acquisition & Research Engineering department provides engineering support for the Science and Technology Directorates. This includes Experiment Design and Research Engineering support.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Use design methodologies, technologies, and processes which are best practice for the technical discipline to develop a design, and to validate that the design meets defined requirements.
  • Develop physics-based mathematical models of mechanical, chemical, and electrical systems to support and verify design.
  • Maintain familiarity with and technical understanding of codes and standards applicable to the discipline.
  • Document the design (controlled and approved models, drawings, specifications, and design descriptions) to establish conformance with design requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Establish testing, inspection, and quality requirements to ensure technical features important to the design are maintained.
  • Oversee or otherwise ensure that fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement are done following the design.
  • Ensure any design modification meets the technical baseline requirements and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Recommend and initiate modifications to support programmatic missions and operational goals and lead preparation of design efforts.
  • Ensure consistency in operation characteristics among applicable documents such as drawings, technical manuals, operating instructions, emergency operating procedures.
  • You will report to the department Manager.

*Minimum Requirements: * * Level 3-Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or WELD Engineering or other related discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or Master’s in the same and 2 years of relevant experience. Level 4-Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or WELD Engineering or other related discipline and 9 years of relevant experience, or Master’s in the same and 6 years of relevant experience,. * Experience with weld procedures. Familiar with INL Weld Program and Process. * This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • The pay range for this position is: Level #3 ($91,008.00 - $186,588.00) / Level #4 ($109,260.00 - $223,908.00). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
