AWS Financial Technology Team is looking for a results-oriented, driven software development engineer who can help us create the next generation of distributed, scalable financial systems that support Amazon's current and future business needs. We need someone to design and develop services that facilitate global financial transactions worth billions (USD) annually.

Our ideal candidate will be a hardcore software developer. This person needs to love building software, be self-directed, knows how to get things done, can lead teams, and is not afraid to take on big challenges. Individuals interested in this position should have practical experience in building high-performance, reliable systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment (Service Oriented Architecture).

Key job responsibilities

• Deliver a Best-in-Class customer experience by continuously building and improving platform, code and services that enable AWS Finance.

• Design and develop high-performance, reliable systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment.

• Build services/integration for Financial Applications.

• Design and Develop Best integration pattern for our systems. Leverage and integrate with different tools, technologies and products with in Amazon to reduce operational cost and enhance customer experience

• Partner directly with other Software Development Engineers (SDEs), Technical Program Managers, Functional Analysts and Customers to understand features and continuously identify opportunities to build and deploy software solutions

A day in the life

An AWS Fintech Software Development Engineer (L5) starts the day with a stand-up meeting, followed by collaborative coding, problem-solving, and code reviews. They actively participate in knowledge sharing, mentoring junior engineers, and delivering technical presentations. Design and architecture discussions with cross-functional teams focus on proposing scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions leveraging AWS services while ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Testing, deployment, and optimization of Fintech applications on the AWS cloud are key responsibilities. Documentation, retrospectives, and continuous improvement of processes and methodologies are essential tasks. The role involves collaborating with stakeholders such as Product Managers, DevOps engineers, Principal and Sr Engineers, and regulatory bodies to develop innovative and compliant Fintech solutions that streamline financial processes, enhance data security, and drive business value for customers in the finance industry.

About the team

The AWS Fintech team builds and operates systems that provide financial management and reporting for AWS. We own the AWS financial data and technology solutions, with the goal of creating a comprehensive finance data platform that automates repetitive data management tasks. This allows our finance users to focus on data-driven insights and informed business decisions.

Our product portfolio includes tools and systems that standardize finance operations across various FGBS teams at the product, region, and customer levels. We work closely with finance, tax, accounting, and AWS business leaders, as well as teams like AWS Forecasting, Commerce Platform, Worldwide Revenue Operations, AWS Service, and Infrastructure to deliver best-in-class solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
