Team

ServiceNow DT Platform Technology Services team of talented and energetic individuals. The team works closely with application developers, product owners and PMO to maintain ServiceNow internal instances.

What you get to do in this role:

The Performance Engineer will be responsible for managing and resolving the most challenging issues for ServiceNow on Performance and instance availability. The successful candidate will be able to quickly gain an understanding of the ServiceNow platform. This is a customer-facing role and therefore it requires strong inter-personal skills in addition to strong technical skills. The Performance Engineer must able to work outside of normal business hours (evening/weekend shifts, holidays) as needed. Should be ready to take a lead of any of the critical support as part of P1 support needed on the issue analysis around the Servicenow instances that we are aligning to.

To be successful in this role you have:

  • 8 - 12 years performance engineering experience around PerfOps, Performance Modelling and Analysis in the enterprise applications space

  • BS, Masters in computer science or equivalent.

  • Ready to analyze, track, capture end-to-end performance coverage, identify bottlenecks and collaborate with the teams to address issues

  • Implement and monitor perf scripts to assess reliability, performance, and quality of the product/service.

  • Should have started his/her career as a developer and transformed self to take up on the performance engineering activities.

  • Understanding of basic networking and system administration

  • Experience in diagnosing performance degradation (e.g. explain plans, database tuning, identify poor-performing dependencies, legacy code and hidden exceptions)

  • Database fundamentals and architecture (e.g. MySQL, Oracle, PostGreSQL)

  • Experience in one (or more) scripting languages: JavaScript, Python, Perl, Unix Shell, Windows Shell)

  • Strong technical skills in web application/service performance and domain knowledge in cloud computing

  • Good Experience with Performance Tools like Splunk/Neoload

  • Unix/Linux experience

  • Timely and accurate communication of alerts to the team

  • Good working knowledge of web application component stack.

  • Should play a key role in defining the perf strategies around the prevention of issues/ incidents through predictive and active analysis

  • Perform proof of concepts of performance monitoring tools

  • Should be good in documenting performance best practices and patterns and build relevant KBs

  • Work with the SRE teams to determine points of failure in the ecosystem and advise how to architect for resiliency and low MTTR

  • Unparalleled troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational aptitude, and time management skills

  • Agile, proactive working with ambiguous specifications and should be able to prioritize on the fly

  • Ability to clearly articulate solutions to complex technical problems

  • Should collaborate and coordinate with teams globally

  • Note: Should be willing to work outside of normal business hours as needed.

Desired Skills

  • Strong understanding of ITSM, ITIL, and/or CMDB

  • Must have a strong understanding of ServiceNow instance and its Perf ops

  • Expertise in debugging, tuning, and optimizing Enterprise Applications (Java preferred, other relevant technologies ok)

  • Experience writing or debugging Object Oriented code

  • Experience working with dynamic HTML components: AJAX, JavaScript, CSS, XML

  • Web Services (SOAP, REST) Producing and consuming the APIs

  • Data connectors (e.g. JDBC, ODBC)

  • Knowledge on two way automated integrations across systems

  • Understanding Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
