Wells Fargo Senior Financial Crime Specialist in Hyderabad, India

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Financial Crime Specialist.

The AML QC Senior Specialist is responsible for leading quality control efforts for the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) program, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards. This role involves in-depth reviews and validation of AML investigations, including Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), transaction monitoring, and customer due diligence (CDD) reviews. The Senior Specialist will provide feedback to specialists, participate in training sessions, and contribute to the development and enhancement of AML policies and procedures.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead or participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within functional area and contribute to large-scale planning related to functional area deliverables

  • Investigate, research, examine, and report complex financial crimes transactions, policy violations and suspicious situations with high levels of risk

  • Perform risk evaluation and modeling to provide input and recommendations for financial crimes strategies and models

  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes and internal controls

  • Conduct data and onsite reviews, review findings, determine risk level and recommend resulting fraud prevention strategies

  • Perform investigative research, root cause assessment and consulting regarding highly complex financial crimes transactions, policy violations and suspicious situations with moderate to high risk

  • Perform detailed examination to detect transactional and relationship patterns, trends, anomalies and schemes across multiple businesses or products

  • Act as an escalation point for more complex cases

  • Resolve moderately complex issues and lead a team to meet deliverables

  • Partner closely with leadership to develop strategies to minimize financial crime portfolio risk through innovative methods with the ultimate goal of maximizing profits

  • Provide leadership within the team

  • Serve as a liaison and represent the organization in handling court appearances, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations

  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and mid-level managers to resolve issues and achieve goals

  • Lead projects, teams or serve as a mentor for less experienced staff

  • Develop and deliver a wide range of training for individuals involved in issue detection

  • Interact internally and externally to conduct investigations or to address risk management.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Financial Crimes, Operational Risk, Fraud, Sanctions, Anti-Bribery, Corruption experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.

Desired Qualification:

  • Conduct advanced QC reviews on AML investigations pertaining to Transaction Monitoring.

  • To act as a domain experts/SME and provide day-to-day guidance & training, assist team in resolving queries/issues.

  • To perform detailed analysis on escalated transactions to identify potential suspicious activities.

  • Serve as a mentor to specialists by providing feedback, guidance, and training to enhance their skills in AML compliance and QC.

  • Be aware of complete QC Framework along with fair idea on the Critical Task List for the different Error Categories.

  • Assist in preparing for internal and external audits by ensuring documentation is accurate, consistent, and accessible.

  • Identify gaps in AML processes and suggest solutions to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of QC reviews.

  • Work with AML investigators, the QC team, and other departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to risk management and regulatory compliance.

  • Integrating the QA working practices across geographically aligned teams to improve cross-functionalization.

  • The role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills and coordinate with operations team and team members sitting in onshore/offshore locations.

  • Provide constructive feedback to AML investigators and support training initiatives to improve quality and compliance.

  • Act as an escalation point for more complex cases.

  • Regularly to conduct QA Calibration calls and following the Dispute Mechanism with adherence to Escalation Matrix

  • Experience in QA/QC Framework preferably in AML Software & Case Management QC Tools

  • Experience of leading team of L1/L2 Investigators and supervising their daily BAU deliverables.

  • Familiarity with BSA/AML, OFAC, KYC regulations, and other relevant regulations.

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with a high level of attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback and communicate effectively with various teams.

  • Proficiency in AML compliance software, databases, and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). and advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel for data analysis.

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing cases and data.

  • Prepare periodic reports summarizing findings, trends, and action plans for continuous improvement.

  • Present insights and quality trends to senior management and suggest corrective actions where applicable.

  • Document quality control findings, observations, and recommendations in a clear and organized manner.

  • Act as a single point of contact for all MIS reporting for QC.
