As senior member of database engineering group, within NetSuite business unit, you will work in a role to diagnose and resolve performance issues with overall database instance or individual queries. In addition, you will collaborate with development teams to ensure they deliver solutions designed for optimal performance.

You will encounter a variety of interesting problems and find ways to solve them rapidly and effectively.

To be successful in this role you should be familiar with SQL constructs, understand principles of schema modelling, know main concepts of Oracle database internals like architecture (multitenancy, memory components, etc), waits events, logs, etc. A positive desire to learn, listen, think, test, and fix problems daily is essential to success.

Operational experience of managing backups, applying patches, etc will be supplementary and desirable but not core skills required for the role.

In addition, this role requires someone to work either Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday as their regular working week. Shift times are 1pm to 10pm. aka covering EU region hours. Flexible working arrangement were working from home 2-3 days a week is acceptable.

Looking for Mid-Senior Oracle DBA or Oracle Database Developer who is passioned about database performance and want to dig deeper into instance and SQL tuning.

EU time shift (1pm - 10pm) Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday. Flexible working arrangement.

NetSuite Database Cloud Engineering is responsible for performance of thousands of customers across the globe. Challenges faced by the team can be broken down into the few categories:

• Diagnose and resolve individual SQL performance issues (you would need to apply hints, define new indexes, investigate optimiser/environment issues ).

• Diagnose and resolve performance issues with overall database instance (DB configuration, Oracle bugs, Issues injected by Development teams and etc).

• Explore and adopt new technologies, eg Oracle 23ai, Autonomous Transaction Processing, Auto indexing, Frequent statistics and etc.

• Collaborate with Development teams to ensure they are designing solution for optimal performance.

To be successful in the role you should be passionate about database performance for which following skills are mandatory

• SQL Tuning

• PL/SQL experience

• Understand DB schema design principles

• Solid understanding of Oracle architecture and internals (RAC, Memory Components, processes)

• Experience with AWR and/or ASH data

• Experience with Shell, Python, Perl or Java

Supplementary skills:

• RAC performance diagnostics (Shared disk system, Clusterware, Interconnects, Kernel)

• Oracle Tracing (intermediate)

• Building synthetic test cases

• Experience Used tools like Oracle Real Application Testing, SwingBench or HammerDB

• NoSQL DB experience

• Experience with source control systems: Gitlab, BitBucket and etc.

Related education & industry experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in a technical area or equivalent experience in a relevant field is required.

Candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in performance tuning, database development, software engineering, or database engineering; or directly related SQL tuning experience in other roles such as QA, SRE or DBA.
