Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks an experienced faculty member for its new Master’s in Applied Biomedical Science Program, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This innovative program, embedded within the medical school, prepares students with the technical, ethical, and clinical expertise needed to advance AI integration in healthcare and medical research. The faculty member will support program administration and growth, ensuring students receive a rigorous, cutting-edge education for impactful careers in healthcare AI. Additionally, they will collaborate with faculty, researchers, and industry partners to further the school’s mission at the intersection of AI and medicine.

Collaborate with the Director of the Master’s of Applied Biomedical Sciences program to develop and execute its vision, ensuring alignment with medical school and university goals. Partner with the Curriculum Team to design learning outcomes that reflect the evolving role of AI in healthcare for medical students and Master’s Degree students. Ensure high-quality instruction and mentorship, fostering an engaging learning environment to maintain strong student satisfaction. Support accreditation processes and ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional standards. Lead the development of a proposed “Center for Medical Artificial Intelligence” in collaboration with internal and external partners. Build partnerships with healthcare institutions, tech companies, and industry experts to provide students with real-world experiences and internships. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration among AI researchers, clinicians, and medical professionals to drive AI-driven healthcare innovations. Facilitate lectures, workshops, and networking events to expose students to cutting-edge AI developments in medicine and healthcare. Support AI-related research initiatives, securing funding through grants and industry partnerships. Provide academic advising and mentorship to support students’ career development and success.

Please note this position is located in Conroe at the newly developed College of Osteopathic Medicine facility.

Educational Requirements for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):

Ph.D., DO, MD, or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Medicine, or related disciplines).

Experience Required for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):

Preferred Qualifications:

Extensive experience in applying AI technologies to healthcare, including but not limited to diagnostic medical imaging, AI-driven robotics in medical procedures, pathology and molecular analyses, and AI-powered portable and wearable health devices. Expertise in AI technology and healthcare practices, with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical, regulatory, and clinical considerations involved in healthcare AI. Experience in medical or healthcare-focused academic programs. Proven success in grant writing and securing external funding. Active engagement in AI research or its clinical applications in healthcare. Expertise in developing and delivering online or hybrid learning environments. Knowledge of regulatory and policy frameworks related to AI in healthcare.
