Primary Function

The position of Publications Development Specialist III provides direct support of the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Department by developing, reviewing, and providing feedback on technical content for technical publications including instruction manuals, procedural information, illustrations, and all other source documentation required to effectively communicate complex technical information into reproducible technical publications.

Essential Duties

  • Plan and lead development of required technical content for various technical publications including installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and complex troubleshooting procedures.
  • Maintain detailed records of all publication changes and source documentation and be able to provide metrics to management.
  • Perform complete and comprehensive review of developed technical publications and associated source materials for grammar, adherence to prescribed development standards, and technical accuracy in accordance with current source materials provided to develop the publications.
  • Communicate with engineering to interpret drawings, provide input, and translate requirements into usable technical instructions / procedures.
  • Develop new or edit existing source files into technical illustrations for use in applicable technical publications.
  • Conduct training/mentorship for department personnel in all phases of publications development and ensure proper documentation of training is accomplished.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of all regulations, policies, and process used in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Participate in meetings/conferences as needed to provide input or address comments/concerns.
  • Serve on proposal teams in support of project development and responses to Statement of Work (SOW).
  • Prepare visual aids such as charts, graphs, forms, etc. to accompany technical documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of MIL-PRF-63002, MIL-PRF-63029, MIL-STD-40051, MIL-HDBK-1222, and MIL-STD-2361 standards.
  • Advanced computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; highly proficient in Extensible Markup Language (XML) software.
  • Utilize digital software such as Technical Illustrator, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Designer, IsoDraw, and SolidWorks to create technical illustrations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and convey in-depth processes and procedures to supervisors, co-workers, and personnel outside the department.
  • Professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service, and follow-up.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree and a minimum of 10 years of task related experience or High School Diploma or equivalent with more than 20 years of direct ublications development experience.
  • Strong computer skills with expert knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, use of Extensible Markup Language (XML) software and publishing systems, Technical Illustration software, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government secret security clearance.

DESIRED:

  • Prefer 10+ years aviation maintenance experience on rotary or fixed wing platforms.
  • Highly Proficient in the use of at least one of the following Extensible Markup Language (XML) software: Arbor Text, Ultra-Edit, or Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Experience with Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) development.
