Chenega Corporation Dispatcher in Huntsville, Alabama

Summary

The Dispatcher is primarily responsible for dispatching emergencies/non-emergencies for the Redstone Arsenal Fire Dept, The Redstone Arsenal Police Dept and the Marshall Space Flight Center Security. The dispatcher is responsible for operating the J911 emergency and administrative telephones, various fire alarm systems, US Army and NASA security alarm systems, National Crime Information Center (NCIC) operations, 2-way radio and emergency warning and notification systems.

Responsibilities

  • Required to follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner.

  • Dispatch emergencies within proper guidelines.

  • Track and record all incidents with a chronological listing of events using various forms and computerized programs.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 1-year previous experience as a dispatcher for emergency responders preferred

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

  • Meet and maintain the requirements of NFPA 1061, Professional Qualifications for Public Safety Tele-communicator and Emergency Medical Dispatch and NFPA 1221, Standard for the Installation, Maintenance, and Use of Emergency Services Communications Systems.

  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance but not required to start.

  • Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing.

  • Must obtain APCO Public Service Telecommunicator certification as well as National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700 during initial training period.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of standard office and administrative practices and procedures including business letter writing, records management, report preparation, and filing methods, correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary, modern office methods, equipment and procedures.

  • Ability to provide varied technical and administrative assistance; use initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines; organize, coordinate, and prioritize a variety of assignments with varying deadlines; work effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions; handle difficult, confidential, and sensitive assignments; organize and maintain a variety of confidential records, reports, and files

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.

  • Must have proficiency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, (MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook.
