Velox, LLC Director of Operations - Fiber OSP Constructions in Huntsville, Alabama

The Director of Operations for our Fiber Outside Plant (OSP) Construction division oversees, coordinates, and drives the successful execution of all operational aspects of fiber optic network construction projects. This role involves strategic planning, team leadership, quality assurance, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The Director will work closely with project managers, contractors, field crews, and cross-functional teams to optimize processes, reduce costs, and uphold the highest standards of workmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership:

  • Develop and implement operational strategies to support growth, efficiency, and profitability in the Fiber OSP Construction division.
  • Set clear objectives for operational performance, including safety, quality, schedule, and budget adherence.
  • Collaborate with senior management to align operational activities with overall business goals.

Project Management and Execution:

  • Oversee the planning and execution of fiber OSP projects, including new fiber installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Ensure projects meet milestones and customer specifications by proactively addressing delays, technical challenges, and resource gaps.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of projects, from site preparation and permitting to testing and final documentation.

Team Development and Management:

  • Build, mentor, and lead a team of project managers, site supervisors, and field staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and safety across the team.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Enforce safety protocols, OSHA compliance, and industry best practices on all job sites.
  • Lead safety training initiatives and emergency response planning to ensure a zero-incident work environment.
  • Keep up-to-date with regulatory requirements and ensure full compliance at all times.

Resource Management and Budgeting:

  • Prepare, monitor, and manage budgets for all projects to achieve financial targets.
  • Oversee procurement, inventory, and equipment management, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to negotiate contracts, secure materials, and maintain quality standards.

Quality Assurance and Process Improvement:

  • Implement quality control measures to ensure all work meets customer expectations and company standards.
  • Identify and address operational inefficiencies, develop standard operating procedures, and foster a mindset of continuous improvement.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational success and report findings to executive leadership.

Customer and Stakeholder Relations:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Handle escalations and resolve conflicts by identifying effective, solutions-oriented approaches.
  • Provide regular project status updates to clients, ensuring transparency and alignment with their goals.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or 10+ years of experience in fiber optic construction or a similar utility construction field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
